There are at least 4, 5 guys who are constantly removing spam (for free). Having two or three more won't change much. It's like trying to push away water with your hands...

I'm actually surprised that RS doesn't do anything definitive about it (this is going on for quite some time now). Having potential customers log in and be flooded with viagra pills, sheep shoes and other nonsense is probably not good for business. The fact that senior users are avoiding the public forums because of spam, is also a loss only for RS.

A big thanks for the guys who delete the spam at this place! :) :)

I wonder where technically is the problem? First two posts of a new member could be set to be unlocked by one of the helping hands here. I know several forums where you need 5 postings to "get into the club".

Or maybe a simple forum soft update?

Yes, many thanks to the slaughterers of spam. Merry Christmas to you all. May 2012 bring us all less spam.

Hi all,

The problem is that currently you need a forum account to purchase a license.
If we make it exceptionally hard to get a forum account, we will lose out on license sales and may go bankrupt...

Until we have our new ecommerce system that does not rely on the forum account anyore, we will have to stick with this.
Anyone who is a RS forum regular and who has had enough about the spam, please volunteer to become a spam mod and help :)

We will be getting a new site with overhauled ecommerce system in a few months,
The new site as posted in the news forum is currently a halted project due to some other happenings which willl be announced in a few weeks...

no barrier at all and "exceptionally hard" seems to leave some space ;) also registering != posting. after two months spending close to an hour a day - everyday - checking the forum and deleting trash, i must admit, i'm getting tired. what about the spam-ip list i sent? or captcha or sthg. like that, of course only for postings of non-custumers? even set up the forum in a way, that this user group's posts needs to be approved before publishing would lower the amount of time currently needed to constantly clean up the forum. and phbb supports that already.

the outstanding quality of this community also helps octane & rsl sales, and a forum literally flooded with spam will destroy it very quickly...
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

While I realise Refractive want to make it very easy for prospective customers to find out about Octane I think most people wouldnt mind entering a simple verification code to post there realising that spam is a universal problem.
In a few forums I visit the first sticky is an apology for the necessity of an antispam measure.
It is a bit of an imposition after a while having forum visitors kindly remove the stuff landing here constantly.
Although I dont mind answering some questions from the public on behalf of Refractive I dont want to spend my time here taking out the garbage as well.
Perhaps if Refractive dont want to put in some basic defence they can just make the Public forum invisible to the Licensed Customer forum and weed through the posts and answer the business inquiries themselves.

Due to the recent additions of more than one product for sale in our eshop,
And the fact that we need to add seveqral more plugin products soon.
We are going to overhaul the webshop, make the process easier and simpler,
And remove the requirement to have a forum account before you can purchase.

Just give us some time unti the hoidays are over and we a re all back working again in the office next week :)
