well, first off the initially choosen card seems to be cancelled; i did now switch to gigabytes gtx 580 ud (which also has some better voltage regulator circuity than the standard 580): http://geizhals.at/eu/673679. i currently own two of them and have them running stable on 900mhz. i also had a gtx 590, so i can tell you that overclocking is not it's domain; ~700mhz maybe, ~650 if you like to have it solid stable; a little more in terms of vram clocks, but a plus 5% overall performance is already the most you can get out of it.asterix7 wrote:Any update on the OCTower progress or even test results - like how far have you've been able to overclock the GTX580, and what effect does it have on Octane's M/sec speed ?
Where did you find the PCIe extension cables ? My hardware shop claims it is very fragile.
Has anyone got experience with overclocking GTX590 ?
some numbers about the gigabyte 580 (with the benchmark scene):
Code: Select all
standard clocks (772/2004 mhz) ... 7.70ms/s
gigabyte clocks (795/2004 mhz) ... 7.80ms/s
save oc clocks (850/2150 mhz) ... 8.38ms/s
heavy oc clocks (900/2200 mhz) ... 8.66ms/s
max oc clocks (950/2300 mhz) ... 9.09ms/s
the extension cables i got from there:

with lenghts about 15cm they are relatively save to use; and in terms of octane rendering, there isn't persistant or heavy pcie load, so should make no problems at all...
