Just to note I had an unusual event while trying out the chess set demo scene with sss
No idea what caused it but after playing with some setting and changing kernals a few times the window became unresponsive and I got a gpu 'failed' message where the memory use is shown below the 3d view.
Never had that before. When I looked at the memory use graphic in the preferences it was completely full.
I was amazed to see the octane process was taking maybe 600mb.
Actually all the memory used by each attribute might have about in the right proportion but was many times what should be. Serious memory leak or something? :geek: HTH

Hi all,

We are going to release a small update, beta 2.55b tomorrow, fixing the linux/mac vertex problems,
and a handful of the other reported bugs.
We're building the releases, so if murphy's law does not show itself tomorrow, linux and mac users should be able to render propper SSS models during the weekend :)

Thanks for all the feedback, please keep posting whatever you may find, so we can inventorize and fix for next updates,

Hi everyone. I've got no problem everything work good!!
I've also try to make leave and grass...combining diffuse-sss + specular all on single surface mesh ad it work amaizing fast!!http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 5&start=10
Even courtain, single side mesh, works great with diffuse sss!!

evo, im not so sure that your results are great because of SSS. SSS needs a closed volume a geometry. Your leaves, grass and curtains are simple planes...the effect you are getting is mostly based on the material transmittance.

Yes i know that sss it's a phisically phenomenon that, by definition, require a volume. Nature does not support single side geometry :D
But i found really good that in octane this node works fine and fast even for single side geometry. This is really important when we have to render a leaf without give it a proper volume. This is nice if you have 3000 leaves with 5 or more poligon each that become twice much.

So i like this results because a single node work fine also as a 2sidedmtl of vray o MR...but in a very much faster setup!!
