I also had a similar problem, only after that I just closed octane and all. and had to render all over again.

to pick just one thing out: i can see form the screenshot, that you use google chrome; now the newest versions of chrome have graphics card accelerated rendering turned on - so in fact if you start chrome, it starts eating up extra(!) gpu resources - and that may easily interfere with octane. if your scene already maxes out the gpu its in general no good idea to have much else going on...

octane stops by itself after 7-20 thousand samples, if you click on pause

well it is hard to judge, but i believe this is not a direct problem of octane. looking at your screenshot it says "failed" next to the gpu - if this happens, you can't continue rendering anyway. and the reason because it fails _might_ be chrome. i had happen that to me (where one of the cores of my gtx 590 constantly fails on maxed out scenes) and nailed down google chrome as the disturbing fact. whenever i opened chrome while octane was rendering, one of the cores failed instantly.Elvissuperstar007 wrote:octane stops by itself after 7-20 thousand samples, if you click on pauset_3 wrote:to pick just one thing out: i can see form the screenshot, that you use google chrome; now the newest versions of chrome have graphics card accelerated rendering turned on - so in fact if you start chrome, it starts eating up extra(!) gpu resources - and that may easily interfere with octane. if your scene already maxes out the gpu its in general no good idea to have much else going on...
it is as i wrote before: newer versions of chrome use the gpu to render webpages, so it will aquire additional resources from the gpu. i don't know how the driver and/or cuda handles this, but if running applications demand more resources than what is available, something will fail! afaik there is no real priority scheduling for gpu-related tasks like the os provides for the cpu. so the gpu needs to be used with a lot more care.
just try that: quit all other applications (even things running in the background like skype) and let octane render along - i'm sure this will work. you just can't expect to use your graphics card like normal if you are rendering.... you also won't start gaming while octane renders, won't you?

ya, because it _fails_. and "failed" means, something (whatever it might be) blocks octane from aquiring the gpu.Elvissuperstar007 wrote:but! He stops , even if you just click on the pause
just try it with everything shut down except octane and see if this makes a difference; can't tell you much more than that - sry...

people are writing that they stop the animation octane ....this is a bug

well, never had that happen to me, not while rendering large images (20 megapixels so far) with maxed out scenes, and not even while rendering animations with the cinema 4d exporter. maybe some sort of memory leak somewhere that eats up gpu resources. though not necessarily octane... and i bet it won't be easy to find nor fix if it really is a bug, because apparently it doesn't happen for everyone and just under certain conditions.Elvissuperstar007 wrote:The same effect it )t_3 wrote:ya, because it _fails_. and "failed" means, something (whatever it might be) blocks octane from aquiring the gpu.Elvissuperstar007 wrote:but! if you like you may send me the scene, and'll try to reproduced it (or ask refractive if they will try to reproduce the problem)...

try lowering the memory usage and leave it rendering. Just lower the res of a couple of the textures and stay about 200Mb away from the top. I'm sure that'll make the difference. I had problems too, when other apps where using the gpu (without my knowledge most of the time) and sucking vram, when that happens and it tops your vram the gpu will fail in octane which is what's happening to you. Actually is not a bug, is how you are using it that is making it fail. (ot saying is your fault, but your OS's fault cause it lets other apps access that vram "taking" it away from octane and crashing the gpu)
