it happened to me too with animation computed with Lightwave with the GI mode ( don't remember the one exactly, i think the '4' ) -> it blocked 3 times on two differents animation ( 200 picts / anim 720p). I closed octane (2.49) and after it continued without problem. ( working with 2 GTX470 ).kubo wrote:not quite a bug report yet 'cause I haven't tested it throughly, but while rendering a video using a batch command (maxoctaner) with nothing else on and aero off, after a few frames (2 or 3) either gpu blocks when it's about to finish, actually you can see that one of them has reach all its samples and the other hasn't but it won't go any further and in preferences it shows just one so it means that the other one has crashed, but no crash report and octane only closes by killing the process, and to get back the other gpu I need to do a full shutdown (reset just stalls). It's happend 3 times, then I've thought of doing a clean driver install (I've been swapping my 3 gpu's around in the 2 slots of that PC and it could have messed something) and testing it in 248, so far it has rendered 40 frames no problem, so when it's all done I'll try again with 249 to see if it's a 249 related bug or a driver issue.
Also I've thought of using 248 cause I've just rendered a couple thousand frames of that same scene in that built with 2 gpus (either 2x570 or 570+470) and no problem at all (once I turned off aero and use max with software display drivers).
So it's just a heads up, once I finish this small batch I'll try back with 249

Hi
First of all: great test release! Enjoying it immensely!
I've got a problem which I've seen someone mention before in the 2.48 release.
When I use PMC mode, sometimes the render fails. I've tried many diffrent scenes. The message in the lower righthand corner says: "Geforce GTX 580 (failed)". Octane doesn't crash, but the render stops. This happens ramdomly (at least I couldn't detect a pattern).
I'm using Win 7, GTX 580 3gb, newest drivers.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Kim

I've recently added Win7 64 to my PC (I dualboot Win7 32 and 64) - I couldnt connect to liveDB on Win64 side when I tried to run Octane there as it said it was a seperate machine, is it possible to install it on both OS's or do I have to either - transfer the license to 64 bit permanently or buy a completely seperate license for my 64 bit OS?
thanks
thanks

You can't have Octane activated on both systems at the same time. You have to deactivate and activate each time you want to switch.r4ytrace wrote:I've recently added Win7 64 to my PC (I dualboot Win7 32 and 64) - I couldnt connect to liveDB on Win64 side when I tried to run Octane there as it said it was a seperate machine, is it possible to install it on both OS's or do I have to either - transfer the license to 64 bit permanently or buy a completely seperate license for my 64 bit OS?

Hi r4ytrace, should work, if you disable your licencse first on your 32 bit system or in the customer area.
You have to wait ~ 30 minutes before reconnect octane on your 64 bit system.
Cheers, mib.
Ops, to late.

Didn't render at all on my system! I've installed toolkit and driver for CUDA 4 but when I select the mesh to start render, nothing happens ... (see my specs in my sig)

Toolips of pins in Object node are sometimes mixed up - I get with "Material picker" a material on view, it is opened in the "Node inspector" and its pin is marked with "square" on the Object node, but the tooltip shows not its name but name of another pin, and its name is "tooltiped" on a third pin...
And very often in this version Octane crashes. In previous case with these tooltips, it crashed at the end of all, and after restart - all pins where OK. At the time - I'm again watching these mixed pins and awaiting of crash...
