Hi all,

As promised, here comes the new test release beta 2.48c. It's basically just a bug fix update in the beta 2.48 release cycle. The first time now also with a Mac build, which might have additional (unknown) issues. Any feedback is very welcome and much appreciated.

Since this version is a test release it should not be used for production work. Scenes stored in this version may not load in beta 2.46b.

This release was built with CUDA 4.0, which means that you should install the latest graphics driver (http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html).
For Linux and Mac OS you also need to install the CUDA Toolkit 4.0 (http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-40).
For Mac OS you also need the latest CUDA 4.0 driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html).

Bug fixes and improvements:
  • Fixed multi-material picking: Materials are sorted front-to-back again.
  • Fixed render lock up when maxsamples were reached and another device got added.
  • Material dragging from LiveDB uses now smaller icons.
  • Material ball should not pop up anymore while dragging from LiveDB.
  • Improved accuracy in memory usage display.
  • Fixed render device activation problems in CUDA device manager.
  • By default the fastest device is chosen if preferences don't say something else.
  • Tried to solve patterns in shadows when direct lighting or pathtracing is used.
  • Tried to make preview render target node and macro node more foolproof: Renaming/deleting/saving those should not be possible anymore.
  • Fixed incorrect initialization of imager with linear color profile.
  • Fixed note node: Update button wasn't working.
  • Fixed camera behaviour while looking up or down.
  • Fixed incorrect colour of connectors that are dragged.
  • Improved daylight environment at night (it's still not perfect, but better).
  • Saving scene files puts them in the list of most recently used scenes.
Known issues/not working features (will be reactivated in the coming days):
  • Initial display of render viewport on Macs doesn't get refreshed until its forced to redraw. We are investigating...
  • Sub-Sampling is not working. It will be available with the next release.
  • Turntable animation is not working yet.
  • Daylight animation is not working yet.
  • Viewport rulers are not working yet.

thanks, I'm gonna test right away.
So far so good, I tested it with a heavy scene, and everything seem ok, the fun thing is that due to some incompatibility with something else I was running my secondary gpu crashed when loading a test scene (I had both assigned and after voxelizing it said only one available, and I think there was an error message relating the gpu), in prior releases this always meant I had to reboot, with this one I saved the scene, close octane and restarted it and I got back the second one and it rendered fine with both.

much improved thank you :)

edit: the 'submitted by' tooltips showing after a cursor pause to the left of the material pics is a good improvement too although the display position seems a little flakey depending on mouse speed at the time and where you stop. Can even end up showing the neighboring tooltip next to the pic.
I suggest they are all drawn with the top left corner under their respective title bar icon regardless - if this is possible... not a biggy though ;)

edit2: expand/collapse all buttons in the outliner is fixed too. :) well done guys!! 8-)

Sounds like a good idea to add a tick box to enable/ disable the rulers in the viewport toolbar customisation for those that do not need them.

Just a thought.

Ok now to give it a go :P

Tool tips don't seem to be popping up on the render viewport using the materials picker eye dropper tool marcus.

Other than that.It seems to be working fine at the moment.

What do you mean by that?

Marcus

Sorry i meant the component names do not appear on the render vewport using the material eyedropper.
They do if you hover the cursor over the scene node pins , just not if you hover the materials eye dropper over the viewport.
