YoonKyung, do you mind telling me what kind of mobo and PSU you use for 4x590? Nvidia seems to run late on their kepler schedule, and I might need to upgrade soon to something faster thatn 2x480... 4x590 sound like it might be up my alley ;)

NO FIREFLIES, NEED NOT SUPER SAMPLING and ULTRA FAST(52Msps with 4xGTX590, double speed of 2.46b).
This is what I am waiting for.
Many many thanks.

Regards,
I am planning buying such a config with 4x gtx 590 too.
My Motherboard will be an EVGA SR2, my CPU: Xeon 5650 x 2
Right now I cannot test anything because my mac pro can only manage gtx 285 and 8800GT … very sad

Hello, is there anyone working on big scenes (at least 4 million triangles) ? I saw no comment about the trouble with the material picker delay, so I copy/paste here a part of the results of my tests reported on page 4 in this same topic :
In 2.47, when you click on an object in the render view, the picker cursor changes instantly into an arrow and the materials panel shows up instantly, and when you adjust a parameter with a slider, it is modified fast in the render view. The time seems dependent on the object selected, and vary from 4 seconds up to a bit less than 10 seconds in my test scene.

In 2.48 (2.48b), when you click on an object in the render view, the
picker cursor remains as it is for 4-5 seconds before changing to an arrow, and beeing usable to click on a slider in the materials panel. if the materials panel is not yet open, it doesn't show up until 4-5 seconds.
I also noticed that it is view dependent : when clicking on an object seen in close up, the time before getting the arrow cursor and material panel has sometimes increased up to 40 seconds (measured in 2.48b), which is huge and really not good at all for the workflow !

I agree that the aperture doesn't work right in Octane. It doesn't behave like real aperture so maybe they should name it something else.

Hi !
I'm reporting 2 issues with the "Preview Configuration" node, probably not specific to this test release (Please see the 2 images underneath that explain all) :

My question : can you tell us if there is an effective way to import customized whole "Preview configuration" and make it work without to have to import child nodes individually (camera, resolution, etc..). Thanks a lot.

FYI--no real need for the sr2/dual xeon setup for Octane--Octane is no where near CPU bound... I have a quad GTX-580 setup using a 2600K intel--save yourself a few thousand dollars & buy some more GPUs:

1 x COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case
1 x ASUS P8P67 WS REVOLUTION LGA 1155 Intel P67 / NVIDIA NF200 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
1 x Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
1 x Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
4 x Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 991995
1 x SILVERSTONE ST1500 1500W ATX 12V 2.3 & EPS 12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Active PFC Power Supply
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM

$1,700 from NewEgg + the GPUs (in my case, 4xgtx-580 w/3gb)

If you want to stick in 4x590, you'll obviously need 2x power supply as well...

I am aware of the fact octane only uses gpu for rendering.
The fact is octane is not the only renderer I use...

Hi ROUBAL !

Do you try with Directlighting ? Perhaps with this kernel mode you will have more samples per second and more responsiveness in the UI ?
I also have scenes with > 4 million triangles and more than 60 materials and have no latency with the material picker in DirectLighting mode.
I don't recommend you navigating in PMC mode for a big scene because in my case, I have a high latency in rotating-panning within the viewport.
Perhaps someone else or Abstrax can answer you more accuratly.
Cheers.
