Hi all,

As promised, here comes the new test release beta 2.48b. The focus was mainly on bug-fixes to make the beta 2.48 (http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... =33&t=7191) more useful. This is just the second revision of the new framework, which means that there are certainly still quite a few issues. -> Please don't be too disappointed if things don't work correctly or crash. Any feedback is very welcome and much appreciated.

This version is a test release and should not be used for production work. Scenes stored in this version may not load in beta 2.46b.

This release was built with CUDA 4.0, which means that you should install the latest graphics driver (http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html).

New features:
  • Added "alphashadows" option to direct lighting kernel. Unfortunately this applies only to direct light, but not ambient occlusion. To get alpha shadows working correctly with AO we need to restructure the direct lighting kernel, for which we didn't have time yet.
  • Portal material can now be enabled/disabled.
  • Added estimated total render time to viewport status.
Bug fixes and improvements:
  • Fixed material ball popup when switching material nodes in node inspector.
  • Material macros are now displayed correctly when picked in material preview scene.
  • Fixed node/shading system affecting Linux builds and (less often) Windows builds, too.
  • Rotation in texture environment works again.
  • Transparency/opacity is working correctly again.
  • Mesh reloading should work again.
  • Mesh relinking via command line parameters (for export plugins) should work, even if the OBJ file is a different one than the originally used OBJ file.
  • Increased initial refresh rate after node changes.
  • Resuming rendering immediately refreshes viewport.
  • Imager settings can be modified when rendering is paused.
  • Viewport navigation is disabled, when rendering is paused.
  • Proper clean up of OpenGL resources (should hopefully reduce OpenGL issues).
  • Fixed bleeding of environment into scene, when portals are used.
  • Initial sun direction of daylight system matches its settings now.
Not working features (will be reactivated in the coming days):
  • Sub-Sampling
  • Turntable animation
  • Daylight animation
  • Viewport rulers
Here are the archives (to save time we haven't build installers):

MacOS 32bit: will be available soon (requires some more work)

Yep... Broke it again.

On a plus point the Info provided at the bottom of the render preview window is getting really good though.
