As a Revit user and other (almost) half million licensed user. FBX is the most ideal choice in a business point of view. IMHO.

Which is the native revit format? Doesn't it export into collada AS well as into FBX? What does FBX format present that collada doesn't, beside having a increasingly less 3d model library?

Having an app that exports both collada and FBX doesn't seem a compelling reason enough to choose one in detriment of the other, as it should be the case, having the ability to pick from a vast library of objects seems the best reasoning for choosing a given , having a multitude of apps behind collada seems to me a better way to accomplish this goal, it's not as if we are talking on using max format, now is it?

I'm starting to think we should add support for both formats. :)
Then, the question is, which one first? :)

I'll do a poll soon.

At this early stage I think it makes sense to pick one that is easier to implement. Anything is better than .obj really and not all apps support rib.
Personally I value functionality more than openness, so if fbx gets the job done more fluently than collada, then fbx it is. And vice versa of course. I'm not too familiar with either of the formats, so my opinion shouldn't have too much weight either way.

IIRC that was your stated intention very early on in this thread.

Unfortunately (and perhaps unavoidably) it has turned into a 'pros' vs 'Joes' pissing contest. C'est la guere (and software development)

Strong views have been coming from both sides, I say you just toss a coin to decide which to do first.

Toss a coin is a bad idea.

Radiance, just investigate which of the both is easier to implement and annouce your decision here on the forum. An explanation, here on the forum, why you chose one of the two formats would be also a good idea!

Hi guys,

I'm going to do a poll soon, once i've had some free time to figure out why the poll system stopped working on the forums after i installed this new template.

the poll will give us a better view on what to implement first,
but i'm sure we will end up implementing both, but i cannot make any promises at this time as to when.
