It seems to be a crash with the old 2.2 protection system, it probably can't find a network interface.
I would really recommend to buy a small firewall router device from d-link for 30 $ and connect your workstation to the internet through it. You can configure the firewall so it only allows traffic from the workstation to live1.refractivrsoftware.com and live2.refractivrsoftware.com using the HTTPS protocol.
That will be a safe access to use the latest versions and your system won't be exposed to the internet.
