Hi
After much investigation, we have decided to go down a 3DGS route for our shoot instead of 4DGS.

Theres not much info around yet about the Octane GS loader, can any one point me to anything useful? (only really found the Pixel Lab tut to be of any use)

Can any Otoy people tell me, if i have a top end workstation (thread ripper pro, 5090, 128gb DDR5 etc...) Will octane be able to handle maybe 30-40 spats at a time? So have 30-40 GS loaders in a scene? Are there any known limitations?

We are capturing actors with a 180degree 50 cam rig, Ill then construct the scene in C4D, so lots of parts to fit together.

I just need to give my director some confidence we can do all this! Or am I better using a 3rd party like AlphaPixels GS loader maybe (im not asking for Otoys opinion of that plug in ha)

All help, views, opinions and advice much welcome and appreciated!

Have a lovely weekend all.

Hi,

First sorry for the late reply.

I don't see why it would be a problem to load 40-50 splats. As long as you can fit them into the VRAM it should be fine.

The C4D plugin will get some nice new features soon, which include a realtime C4D Viewport preview of the splat and loading of animated splat sequences. Also export to spz should then be possible.
Indeed our first internal beta of this already looks promising.

Hi

No worries, Im in the middle of production now and its working very well. Even with 30 containers in the scene its very light weight, takes abit of time to load in to PV but thats to be expected.

That sounds great, looking forward to the new bits! I was working on a script that would look at the min and max point positions in the ply file, then generate a bounding box cube for each container, but at the moment its a little beyond me, so any kind of c4d VP preview will be awesome.

Cheers

Hi there,

Piggybacking off of your thread, you might know the answer actually, but does Octane support linear colorspace 3DGS? ie. splats that have been trained on linearly encoded images

I'm trying to get a feel for the best practice/workflow for creation of a scene with a 3DGS, which then needs to be rendered and graded, and I want to ensure a "proper" color workflow.

Thanks!

Octane 2027 has a color space pin for that, so I think it should be no problem

We use ACES workflow. Images captured RAW, fed into Postshot and then GS exported as ply, imported via octane to c4d Aces etc. And flippd the switch on Octane GS object to Aces and colours were bang on, the exported as ACEScg to AE and comped up nicely.

So, if my workflow doesnt help, short answer would be yes I think if youre ACES

Best part is, the octane loader is really fast so youll be able to iterate quickly

Hi

We finished the job and it worked fantastic. Just had a chance to try the new GS loader in 2026.6, its amazing to have it displaying in the viewport now!
I can see various controls for animation, im assuming for use with 4DGS, But im wondering if its possible yet, to get access to the point data in the PLY so I can basically deform the GS?

At the moment, im guessing I would have to write some kind of involved Py script that brings in the ply data, deforms it and then writes it to a new ply, then reload perframe into the GS loader. Probably beyond me unfortunately.

Is this kind of functionality on the cards or not possible?

Great work on the new GS loader, i want to splat everything now

Cheers

**** Never mind, I just saw the item on the Trello page for c4d effectors and deformers on GS. Awesome

Cheers guys!
