Hi There,

had and reported this problem some time before.
After some weeks without problems, now I cannot start any rendering
because the server stops immediately and disapears from the task.

Maybecaused by an automatic Win Update - dont know - but right now I cannot work.
Server quits with every rendering!

Restart does not work, newest NVidia drivers dont work, reinstalling the server does not work.
I`m totally lost!

What can I do?

thanks

when rendering a larger image this error message pops up!
Screenshot_Error_Server.jpg
Blender 5.1.2
Server is: Server Studio 31.9
Octane Addon: 2026.3 31.9

So this should be the right server.

Tried this "debug-mode" and now in debug-mode Octane renders the image.
What does this mean?
Is any other addon causing the server to always crash.
What is in debug-mode other than starting normal Blender?

Maybe this helps so you can give me any tip how to solve this annoying server crashing!

thanks

and here is that log-file!
blender_debug_output.txt
(86.27 KiB) Downloaded 30 times
Hope it helps, because server stoped again.

Could you please share the problematic scene with me?
Also, consider a bios/firmware update for your motherboard. Tha solved a lot of issues for me with the latest Blender versions (it was crashing a lot) an the latest Win updates.

Hi Lino,

sorry to bring this annoying problem back to the forum, and thanks in advance!
I’m currently working on a project that I can’t share, so I’ve only uploaded the lock file.

Blender itself rarely crashes; it’s always the server that crashes
or loses the connection.
I’m a bit hesitant about reinstalling Windows 11 or updating the firmware, since I have to turn in the project soon.

Can you tell anything from this lock file
that might help?

Thanks so much again,
Michael

Hi miohn,

Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can determine from this log. It only shows that Blender starts failing to send update requests and then loses its connection to Octane Server on localhost:50051. In other words, the log confirms that the server has closed or become unresponsive, but it does not reveal what caused it.

There are no clear CUDA, out-of-memory, or access-violation errors in the log, so I would not reinstall Windows or update the firmware based on this information alone.

What would be much more useful is the Octane Server log or any crash dump generated at the same time. Please also let us know the exact Octane addon and server versions you are using.

Since you cannot share the project, it would help to check whether the issue can be reproduced:

- with only the Octane addon enabled;
- in a simplified copy of the scene;
- or in a new scene containing the same type of assets or settings.

I also noticed a Megascans socket error and several duplicate addon registrations, but the log does not provide evidence that either of those is responsible for the Octane Server crash.

Also, which GPU are you using? Is the scene heavy (lots of high poly meshes and many textures)?

Hi Lino,

well its a very small scene with only a few polygons (walls, floorplane) and a product loaded as ORBX from C4D.
Textures taking 1.5 Gig - so this should not be the problem.

I have 2 x 4090s 192 Gig Ram, Blender 5.1.2 latest Octane Addon 2026.3 31.9.0 and latest corresponding Server from same release post.

Sadly I dont know how to get a "Octane Server Log" and "crash dump"
Where can I find these files?
Whats about that megascans error? I have some megascans textures in the scene.

Well next I will test with all other addons disabled.

I assume, that this server-stuff will be needed also in future.
No chance to get Blender Octane some day without that?
Not possible to get a stable working server app? :)

thanks so far!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the additional information.

Given the small scene and your hardware, this does not immediately look like a memory issue. Testing with all other add-ons disabled is the right next step.

The Megascans error refers to the plugin trying to use a socket or port that is already occupied, not to the Megascans textures themselves. It may be unrelated, but disabling the plugin will help rule it out.

The log only confirms that Blender loses its connection to Octane Server; unfortunately, it does not reveal why the server stops responding. Please check Windows Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application for an error involving OctaneServer.exe at the time of the crash, and share the faulting module and exception code if available.

Octane Server is a necessary component of the Blender add-on architecture. In most cases, crashes are caused by specific hardware or system-related issues rather than by the server architecture itself.

Hi Michael,

Thank you, this is more useful. It confirms that OctaneServer.exe is actually crashing inside octane.dll, with exception code 0xc0000005, indicating an access violation.

Unfortunately, this still does not identify the underlying cause. Please continue testing with all other add-ons disabled. Testing the ORBX asset in a clean scene would also be particularly useful.

Best,
Lino
