We are excited to bring you the first Stable Release, for the OctaneRender for Blender Addon! With this release, there will no longer be any need for a custom-built Blender version anymore!

UPDATE (29/05): 31.7.3 Hotfix now available!

This Addon Release is only compatible with Blender 5.1 - previous Blender 5.0 and 4.x releases are not supported.

This version works on the "vanilla" Blender 5.1.1 release, that you can download and install from the Blender Foundation website ( https://www.blender.org/ ).

The installation consists from two parts:
1. OctaneRender™ Server
2. OctaneRender for Blender Addon

How to Install
  • Download the addon and the server files
  • Unzip the Octane Addon Server in any location on your hard drive
  • Launch the Octane Addon Server
  • Launch Blender and from Preferences/Addon, install the Octane for Blender addon
  • Select File > New > OctaneRender Startup (Direct Lighting) or File > New > OctaneRender Startup (Path Tracing)
  • Quit Blender
  • Launch Blender again

Bug Reports

For faster troubleshooting, please provide as much information as possible. Please include:
  • Your Hardware specifications (unless they are included in your signature)
  • A clear description of the issue you have found
  • Steps that you took to trigger this bug, so that we can reproduce it (ideally, please also provide screenshots)
  • If possible, Blend files for direct testing would also be appreciated
  • Whenever possible, please confirm that this issue is only happening in the plugin, and not also in the Standalone Edition (if the bug occurs in both, it is likely that this issue should be reported in the OctaneRender Standalone section of the Forums).
If you are unable to share a copy of the affected scene, please try running Blender in debug mode and send us the logs instead.
  • Open the directory of the Blender executable file.
  • Double-click the blender_debug_log.cmd file to open it.
  • This will launch Blender in debug mode and automatically start capturing logs.
  • Reproduce the issue you are experiencing in Blender.
  • Once you have finished reproducing the issue, close Blender.
  • Blender will open a folder containing error log files.
  • You can then send us the blender_debug_log.txt file to help us diagnose the issue.

You can get more information about the debug command at https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/troubleshooting/crash.html.

This scene demonstrates direct access to Geometry Nodes attributes inside Octane materials.

Using Blender’s Geometry Nodes, random per-instance color data is generated and stored through a named attribute (instance_color).
Octane can then read and use that attribute directly inside the material through the Instance Color node.

This opens up a completely new workflow for Octane users, allowing procedural control over colors, roughness, metallic, emission, displacement, and virtually any material parameter directly from Geometry Nodes data.

Thanks to Mike Hodgetts for the testing scene!
