Hi!
(posted this in the "Releases" section first, but maybe that was the wrong place, sorry for spamming)
I am experiencing a couple of issues when opening older files in the latest Octane version.
What I have found so far (when opening a file last saved in 2021) :
- All Image Texture nodes get their Color Space set to "Non-color data", regardless of the previously saved setting. This of course leads to huge color problems especially with diffuse textures. This forces me to manually rework of every single Image Texture node.
- All Universal materials have their Transmission mode set to "Diffuse" even when previously created as "Specular".
This is very suboptimal for dealing with older files, which I tend to do on occasion. On bigger projects it's a pretty catastrophic time waste to manually re-adjust every material.
Related question:
- As I have a 5090 card now, I don't believe I can run any Octane version older than 2025, is that correct? Otherwise I could have just run a parallell install of an older (2021) version.
Could this be made more backwards compatible?
Thanks!
/ Andreas

Hi,
which exact version of 2026.1 are you using?
I have just tried to create a scene with c4doctane 2021.1.6-R3 in C4D R26, with ImageTexture node and an Universal material with Transmission type set to Specular: Then opened with C4D 2026 and OctaneRender plugin 2026.1-v1.8.2, and both color space and transmission type are correct: In general, if you are having issues with previous scenes, please note that you can also select all the materials, and in the Basic tab you can change the compatibility mode to a previous version: And you can do the same also in Kernel settings: ciao,
Beppe

Hi Beppe, thanks for the reply.
Funny that it works for you.
I'm using Octane 2026.1 - 1.8.2 (with C4D 2026.1.0).
Not entirely sure what Octane version the file was saved with, but it is saved in late 2021, so reasonably would have been Octane 2021 or 2020.
Unfortunately, the solution to change compatibility mode does not resolve the issue with the Image Texture color space or the Transmission mode for me, and also when using for instance an Octane Layered Material, one has to deep dive in the node editor to change the compatibility mode, so selecting all and switching is no longer a quick operation.
It also affects Image Textures used in Area Lights.
I could ZIP the project in question and send it to you if it would help figure out why this opens incorrectly? It's an old client project though, so I cant just upload it here in public.
Could I email you a download link? If so, to what adress?
Thanks
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
Ok, send me a link to the scene via Private Message, thanks.
About RTX 50X0 Blackwell, yes, the first version supporting it is 2025.1.
ciao,
Beppe

Hi,
Thanks for sharing the scene, it was very useful.
It turned out that the scene was made with a more older c4doctane version, 2020.2.4 to be precise: The "Non-color data" issue in ImageTexture node is a 2020.2.4 thing, already fixed in c4doctane 2020.2.5, while the Transmission issue is also present in 2020.2.5 version.
I have created a more simple scene to reproduce the issue, and I can confirm that it doesn't work in 2026.1 plugin version: Anyway, it is definitely a plugin issue, because I have exported the scene in .orbx from 2020.2.4-R2, and Standalone 2026.1 can open it correctly: I'll share the scene with plugin devs for a fix, thanks again for your collaboration.
ciao,
Beppe
