Hi all,

We are happy to bring you OctaneRender 2025.3. This version brings new improvements and bugfixes. Thanks again to all those who sent us feedback and continuously help us to improve Octane.

Image

Important notes:
  • The minimum NVIDIA driver version required is R528 (R572 for GeForce RTX50 Series).
  • The minimum version of macOS required is 14.5. It will soon be raised to 15.
Changes since 2025.2.1

Improvements
  • The built-in input isImageProjection has been made available in OSL shaders.
Resolved issues
  • Fixed black edges where Vectron objects and meshes intersect.
  • Fixed wrong transforms used when connecting the same transform node to multiple projections.
  • Fixed render node crash happening when using some setups.
  • Fixed USDZ scenes that loaded empty when loaded from an ORBX package.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when picking a Vectron (e.g. with the object or camera focus pickers) on macOS.
  • Fixed a crash that was happening when loading a USDZ file from an ORBX package.
  • Fixed errors in the log when some nodes have no projection node connected.
  • Fixed freeze on MacOS when rendering invisible volumes.
  • Fixed 2024.1 compatibility mode for projection nodes when using OSL projection nodes. 2025.1 and 2025.2 produced the wrong UV mapping for these nodes in 2024.1 compatibility mode, this output will not be reproduced by any compatibility mode going forward.

Thank you for the update guys. i love Octane since version 2. But i am on mac for 1,5 years and octane is crashing while rendering a animation over 600 Frames in Standalone and DCC. i am on a m3 max with 64GB and Cinema 4d. i also write the issue to beppe from c4d forum some month ago but the bug was not fixed yet and it is very anoying to restart the render every time. i render animations about 3000 and 6000 frames.
can you say somthing about this bug? Beppe says you're working on fixing the error. Is it only on M3 macs or is there a workaround for this?

cheers Daniel

Will there be a 2025.3 plugin for Houdini on MacOS on an M3 Ultra system?
Thanks, Greg

Lots of people do Depth of Field in post. In post you got more control. In Nuke for example with the plugin 'Bokeh' you can control how much out of focus there is in front of your focus point and behind. This is not accurate but give extreme creative control. You can blur your background more and keep a sharper foreground for example. (this is a DOP wet dream :D).
Is that something that could be implemented in octane? I tried making it with osl but with no luck.
I looks like you cannot access the distance to the point being shaded; you can only modify the ray direction from the camera, regardless of what the ray will actually hit.

I tried rendering deep out of octane. I noticed 2 things.
1. The saved image is darker in nuke compared to the none deep render. Don't know why?
2. It looks like emission is missing in the deep render?
