Capture AOV driving me crazy

I can't get a custom AOV to display even a simple red colour (it needs to show a gradient matched to the axis of the object, the red is to try and debug)

As you can see I get a red fringe on my custom AOV pass, so some data is being passed, but it should be solid red, not just out of focus fringes

The shader is an octane glossy material.

Here is an image showing that if I plug the red straight into the diffuse it works on the beauty:

Maybe you have a piece of glass or some other geometry between the camera and the object such that the object stays fully visible to the camera in the render but when isolated through the custom AOV it doesn't see it correctly.

Thanks for your suggestion, I have cleaned out the scene completely to avoid any anomalies so there are no plains or lights, but the results are as above.
