This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender 2024 for Modo - TEST and STABLE release.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES
  • Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.
  • Refer to the Troubleshooting section of the manual at https://docs.otoy.com/ModoH/ModoPluginM ... ooting.htm
  • Cuda error 999 - failed to load shader code: Multiple definition of 'cpSptStatistics' in 'cuda_teturemode' means that your plugin version is too old for the Nvidia drivers that are installed, so update to the latest version of the plugin.
  • The Octane Greyscale Vertex Attribute is not working for a mesh : make sure Kernel->Render Cache is disabled, and Live Geometry is enabled and Load Cage is disabled for the mesh.
  • How do I copy Meshes between Modo scenes? Please see viewtopic.php?f=34&t=75794&p=389534

Modo Version
Windows : Modo15, 16 and 17 on Window 7, 8 or 10 64bit
OSX : Modo17 on macOS Somona, and only on Apple Silicon
Linux : Modo15, 16 and 17 on 64bit Linux

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 452 or higher on Windows, 450 or higher on Linux.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release from the Octane Standalone installer which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Modo version
- OctaneRender for Modo version (ie. 2.0.10.16)
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version

Prior to reporting issues, please try Modo->System->Open User Folder->Shutdown Modo->then delete the MODO[version].CFG file and restart Modo.

The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Important:
  • When the Studio+ version of the plugin is installed, you must disable the Prime version of the plugin when comes with the Modo17 installer. To do this delete the modo\extra\Scripts\OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder from the Modo executable folder.

Current STABLE build (Octane 2025.2)
  • For users with a Prime license
    • Windows - Modo17 - OctaneRender for Modo 2025.2.0.203
    • Linux - Modo17 - OctaneRender for Modo 2025.2.0.203
    • macOS - Modo17 - OctaneRender for Modo 2025.2.0.203
      Important:
      • To install the PRIME version,
        1) If you have set the NEXUS_KITDISABLE environment variable to OctaneRender_Prime, delete this environment variable
        2a) On Windows, delete the C:\Program Files\Modo17.1v1.202577\modo\extra\Scripts\OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder
        2b) On macOS, delete the OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder from the Modo17.1 application Contents->Extras->Scripts folder
        2c) On Linux, delete the ~/Modo17.1v1.251515-Release/modo/extra/Scripts/OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder
        3) Install the OctaneRender for Modo PRIME version of the plugin
        4) Ensure you have OctaneRender_Prime plugin DISABLED and the OctaneRender plugin ENABLED in the Modo->System->Kit Toggle Enable menu
      • On macOS, when the 'Octane Improvement Project' dialog shows, press the Enter key to bypass the dialog box.

- Fixed issue where the Spotlight Distribution texture could not be plugged into the Modo Directional Light "Distribution" pin
- Changes related to Octane 2025.1....
- Added the "UV coordinate with transform" node
- "Ray Step Increase Factor" pin has been added to the Medium nodes

- 11 New blend modes for output AOV layers

- The "Realistic lens camera" has been added - however the Aperture cannot be set by the plugin, so the FOV does not match with Octane. I am working with OTOY on a solution
- Added the Geometry->Vectron "operators" and "primitives" nodes. To use these, add a Modo Mesh item to the scene, click the "Add Mesh To Schematic" button and plug these vectron nodes into to "Octane Geometry" pin
- Not Implemented: Decals
- Not implemented: Mesh Vertex Rest Positions
- Changes related to Octane 2025.2....
- Added new Render AOV -> Alpha node
- Added a new pin Denoise Quality to the Camera->Imager and Output AOV->Open Image Denoise nodes
- NOTE : There have been changes to the Octane Image Tiles node, so can users that are using this note please test that it is still working as expected
- NOTE : The next release will fix the issue where the 2D Transformation node is missing it's property panel in this release
