OctaneRender 2024.1 Alpha 4 for Houdini Alpha (2024.1.Alpha_4.0)

This is a production release of the OctaneRender™ 2024.1.Alpha_4.0 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2024.1 Alpha 4 core. This 2024.1.Alpha_4.0 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.0.720, 19.5.805, 20.0.506, 20.0.547, 20.0.590, 20.0.625, 20.0.653.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only compatibility Houdini 20 build is supported (gcc9.3).
It can only be installed by downloading it from the downloads page since it's not visible in the Launcher:

We are looking into supporting the gcc11.2 build.

Known bugs
On Linux, MPlay IPR may not be working. If you are having problems with it, please switch to QT5 IPR and disable "Render to MPlay" in ROP nodes.

Common Issues and Solutions
- If the plugin doesn't work at all, set HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2 in houdini.env and check for messages in the terminal.
- If you're missing libglut.so.3, install the freeglut package.
- If you are having any issues with the Deadline - please submit a support ticket to the AWS.

Sorry for the Open Image Denoise problem again, I've followed what's been shown here viewtopic.php?f=102&t=83264&start=20
but it's still not working
The attachment baa119da208c070d216f20dfd51fc53.png is no longer available
I do realize there can be lots of work behind and the document might take extra time to get up to date but it'd be really appreciated if you can provide some example hip files along the new release to show how to use certain new features.
Also I've attached the problematic hip file.

Hi LewisO, it seems to be working, as you can see the solid being rendered. You still need to add AOVs and possibly enable Alpha under Kernel settings.

Here is another example and HIP file, it is using 25 samples and denoising 2 separate AOVs, you can scrub in the timeline to see it update.
Make sure you select the OutputAOV first.

It is my pleasure and happy to help!

I didn't add everything in the example, but it should be enough to experiment with and find what works for you for your task. (You can also use Opacity and Mask by layer etc.)

That's another that confuses me, it seems like the nodes are inconsistent across different DCC plugins and the standalone.
As you can see in the standalone and the C4D plugin, you can easily pipe in a color to the Mask with Layer group node, but the color input seems to be missing in Houdini and I can't figure out how to use it like the standalone/C4D plugin

I'm getting this Console Error appear when I plugin a Vertex Displacement or Displacement node into the displacement channel in a Standard Material.
It doesn't appear to affect the displacement node as I can see it displacing when I change the height value.

Have to say I'm impressed with the speed at which the displacement works tho!

Hey Ricky, here's a stripped down version of the file with just a cube and a procedural texture and I still get the error.

Disp Error

I'm on windows 11 Pro - 10.0.22631 Build 22631 and Houdini 20.0.653
