vertex maps for splines?

I would like to drive eg opacity of a spline rendered as hair via a vertex map, is this possible?

The scene gets too heavy if i have to sweep the splines to create real geometry.

You can try to set vertex map to fields and use spline as field with radius :
spline_field.png
After that use this vertex as opacity in Octane nodes

Thanks, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I want to control the spline itself with vertex map on the spline:
spline.png
And then render the spline via the octane object using "render as spline (hair)" and then control eg opacity or color via the vertex map.

So this is not possible with Octane?

Possible but it looks like famous word "limitation" should be used for weights on splines. Use Sweep instead with small radius :
