same issue at this person.... this is pretty messed up
Hi, which build are you using? Is it with a particular scene or even an empty scene with an Octane ROP + RenderTarget + Camera?
Please turn on the Debug output under Options and PM me the saved file. Thanks!

I don't think you need to sign out and back in again, although is it showing you it is activated?

I had shelved this for a few days, but am back after the V20updates, and still not able to load O.

Same error.

How do I allow the plugin? I'm not getting an error like I did when I was using Cinema?

Hi atracksler!

You didn't seem to reply to PDivision1: "What is your mac hardware? The plugin is only built for apple silicon (M1/M2)."
Which hardware are you using exactly and which OS version? Also don't forget H20 has a different environment file to add your octane plugin path.

Ok had a look again and got the same error when clearing permissions. This is an Apple permissions thing so please try the following.

Step 01: Control + right-click then choose "Open" on the file liboctane.dylib under the octane plugin folder dso.
Step:01
Step:01
Step 02: Click "Open" on the dialog box then start Houdini.
Step:02
Step:02
You would have probably also see the file appear under your Privacy & Security Mac settings.
You could also try this on the Houdini_Octane_20.0.506.dylib if the first one didn't sort it out. Let me know if that helps :)

Got the dialog box on the liboctane.dylib

Same error.

When I try opening the Houdini_Octane_20.0.506.dylib, I get a terminal window with:

Code: Select all

If restart and try launch Houdini again, do you get the following popup? When you do 'Allow Anyway' under security you would have also needed to add your Mac user password to give proper permissions.
Click Allow and Enter your password. Then Launch Houdini again.
Click Allow and Enter your password. Then Launch Houdini again.
If permissions aren't added you will get those errors from your first post - example below.

I have restarted several times.

I opened liboctane.dylib, and gave it permissions.

When I also open Houdini_Octane_20.0.506.dylib

I get the following in Terminal:

Code: Select all

Last login: Sun Nov 26 11:30:06 on ttys001
/Users/Adam/Library/Preferences/houdini/Octane_2023.1.1_Houdini_20.0.506_macos_Prime/dso/Houdini_Octane_20.0.506.dylib ; exit;

I'm using the following in Houdini.env:

Code: Select all

HOUDINI_PATH = "/Applications/redshift/redshift4houdini/20.0.506_arm64;/Users/Adam/Library/Preferences/houdini/Octane_2023.1.1_Houdini_20.0.506_macos_Prime;&"
If I don't use the Houdini.env and try to use a package file:

Code: Select all

{
"enable" : true,
"env":
[
{
"HOUDINI_PATH" :
{
"value": "/Users/Adam/Library/Preferences/houdini/_PLUGINS/Octane_2022.1.2.0_Houdini_20.0.506_macos_Prime",
}

}
]
}
I don't get the Octane shelf.

My Octane Standalone is installed at /Applications/Octane X Prime 2023.1.app

My Octane plugin is installed at /Users/Adam/Library/Preferences/houdini/Octane_2023.1.1_Houdini_20.0.506_macos_Prime

I'm totally stumped.

I still haven't gotten octane 2022 to run on macOS, 2023 works fine, both installed the same way, just pointing to a different folder. unfortunately, it's 2022 I need at work right now, so a bit annoying and weird.

running an m3 macbook, is there a chance octane 2022 aren't happy under Sonoma or should it all just work fine?

You would have to roll back to Ventura as 2022 will not work with Sonoma - This will affect Standalone too.
