Hey, thanks for the Update!

Are there plans for making the Photon Tracer part of octane x?

Thanks in advance,
Mitch

Thanks for the update.
A few questions.
1. Where is network rendering? Are we able to render across MAC and PC.
2. Is support dropped for AMD 57xx and 6xxx series cards? is octane x only apple silicon from now on?

I have the same question. This doesn't work on my 2019 Mac Pro with 2 dual 6800s. Is OTOY dropping support for AMD cards all together? I also use 5 6900 GPUs, so this would be a giant bummer.

I keep getting this error that says, "There is no CUDA device which is selected." Also, says I have 0 days left on my subscription but I have around ~290 days.

Also I get this error on my M1 MacBook Pro, R25 when I open Octane's settings. Then if I stop the render and restart it the viewport renders. It's almost like an erroneous render failure.

Hi,
2022.1-XB3 Metal works only with Apple Silicon M1/M2 GPUs, no AMD GPUs support:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=80156#p414656

2022.1-XB3 Metal is distributed only in free Prime version for now, in this way any Mac user with Apple Silicon GPU can test it.
But Network-Rendering is not available, since Network-Rendering works only with Enterprise licenses.

Ciao Beppe
please tell me that you will achieve AMD support on Intel MacPro.
We are waiting since 2019 for a proper working solution for rendering together with pc etc. and it were promised sooo often.
Otherwise goodbye OctaneX.

Hi Beppe,

Reading your response and considering Octanes past promises.
It's good to conclude that AMD would no longer work, which is disappointing since Octane X was launched along side the 2019 MAC PRO.
What is annoying though, is that there isn't any way to make Octane X any faster on Apple silicon.
The M1Max is as fast as 1080ti there isn't any EGPU support or any network rendering.
Octane X is now the slowest renderer on the MAC platform.
Every other major renderer either has hybrid or CPU rendering.

Dear all
I totally agree. Spend around 30K Euros for hardware for renderingt big architecture scenes the last 2 years, the first working Octane X was around fall 2020.
2 years later we have to throw the machines to the rubbish?? No way, we change all to RS, that is guaranteed.
Maybe the new macPro has 4-8 of M2 Cores but that does not help at all if this machines costs again 10-15k.
Oh man, this is really a bad joke. I really feel myself srewed up by OTOY and Jules. All this promises since when? 2018??
And please don´t come around with, that is the fault of apple. I cannot hear that anymore...

I agree. I’ve been a loyal customer for many years. Love the product, but I can’t continue using it because you won’t continue support for AMD. It was such a short run with AMD. It was never close to being as fully featured as the Windows version. Feels really bad to have sunk so much money for the support to cease. The updates were small and incredibly infrequent.

Regardless, thanks for the work you put into the plug-in.

Latest M1 builds(2022.1-XB3) are %99 similar to latest Windows versions. WE have had many problems because of OSX development environment and Apple policies. At least plugin side I had many problems to compile old plugins because of XCode and OS backward compatibility issues. Never sorted them because of different OS version+toolkit requirements on every C4D versions. Now I can just build the plugin for R25/R26 with 2022.1-XB3 SDK. Other than this as I know that the Otoy team have had too much troubles to port the old codes to new architectures. This kind of big platform changes never happened on Windows versions. That's why the seeing different between platforms.

hopefully network rendering will be supported soon, as i need to be able to work on my new macpro laptop and render with my networked windows 5 GPU computer + box. currently i need still to use version 2021 on my old macpro with high sierra and nvidia CUDA to be able to work for my clients. if this situation is going to persist much longer, unfortunately i will need to switch to maxon's redshift, even if this solution is less easy to setup and image quality needs to be tuned well to be at par with octane.
