hey folks.

i've done a bit of searching for this but can't find anything that matches up with what i'm seeing.

i'm trying to render out a scene element - very simple, just one kitbash building mesh that i'm trying to composite into an aerial shot. nothing fancy, just testing.

the problem is that when i click "alpha channel", my live viewer responds properly, giving me alpha, but the same exact frame rendered to .tiff includes the octane sky background.

even if i override kernel settings and specifically check 'alpha channel' in the render settings, i still get the octane sky background, no alpha.

this same behaviour happens with any object, if i just instantiate a cube and add an octane sky, i get the same result: alpha works in the preview window, but rendering to .tiff yields the sky background.

i'm guessing i'm just missing something? i have searched quite a bit so forgive me if i missed an existing answer!

additional, relevant info:

c4d R23, latest stable release of the studio plugin.

i'm guessing i could deal with this via a multilayer EXR output but hoping there's a simple way to do this for jobs that don't require that level of control!

Hi,
did you check in a compositing app, if the Alpha channel is present in the Tiff file?

If you save in PNG 8bit or 16bit, the Alpha channel is directly applied:

sigh... you know, it's rare that i post with a problem like this, and i felt like i had tried everything. so it's embarrassing to admit that sure enough, all is fine with the output .tiff files when i load them up for comping.

thanks for the sanity check. i was definitely getting thrown off by the picture viewer result.

right then... back to my cave. ;)
