only entry in houdini.env:

HOUDINI_PATH = "/home/john/houdiniall/Octane_2020.2.3.0_Houdini_Linux_studio/Octane_2020.2.3.0_Houdini_18.5.532_Linux_gcc6.3.1_vr;&"

Probably you also need to add the PATH variable pointing to the plugin "bin" folder:

Code: Select all

PATH = "/home/john/houdiniall/Octane_2020.2.3.0_Houdini_Linux_studio/Octane_2020.2.3.0_Houdini_18.5.532_Linux_gcc6.3.1_vr/bin:$PATH"

Found the problem - missing freeGLUT, the plugin works now (Linux doesn't require the second path variable), but I have had to send an email to support since my licenses aren't recognized now even though the web interface shows them active on my machine.

Z-depth seems to be pretty broken. In the IPR I can only get it to work if the colorspace is set to srgb (PNG only) and when I render it out as an exr (any setting) the z-depth layer is completely white (even if z-depth setting is set correctly). Saving out as png seems to work.

Is this something new in this build? Be aware that the IPR and png can be tonemapped, while the EXR file is linear, storing the real depth of each pixel, and making any value greater than 1.0 units white.

Thanks,

Can't believe I spent all this time without figuring this out :D You're absolutely right. It was working just fine I was just used to the tonemapped version. Just had to set my whitepoint and blackpoint in After Effects to the right value and there it is! Thank you and sorry for the confusion! You guys are killing it!

I use only fire for volume, without smoke. Why octane dont support emmision volume for Alpha?
For smoke all working well, but flame dont appeare in renders in alpha zone.
i tried to put "flame field" in "scattering grid, and in empty zone fire dont apear and this is not result what i want ;(
