You can add an octane object layer component to your unreal component and set the shadow/camera visibility on that object.

i was wondering about this as well but could not find any info.
can you give a bit more detailed info on how to add unreal layer component do an unreal comp?
i presume this can work with lights too and switch off certain aspects as in other dcc...

There is an unreal component called Octane Object Layer Component, you should be able to add it to unreal instances, static meshes, skeletal meshes and lights.

i was wondering where the option was, not experience with unreal. found it under my nose ofcourse.

is there any way to have the light cast shadows but not be visible in volumetric scattering?

I think thats an Octane question. And I suspect that might not be feasible.

Have you thought about placing rectangles that are invisible to the camera between the lights and the volumes? You can do this with the Object Layer component.
