Hi,
I've updated this post adding a new 2020.1.5.3 build that includes an option to configure a pause between renderings and avoid a rare issue related to duplicated files. This workaround that was always enabled in the previous versions is now disabled by default.
Thanks,
-Juanjo

Hey everyone,
this is the first time I'm using Octane for Houdini.
Unfortunately I get an error message saying - 3448: Fatal error: Segmentation fault
In this case it's 3448, but I've also been getting 13484 and other numbers.
I've already tried upping the tdp settings in regedit, since I read that this can be caused by these settings being set to a too small value.
Would be great to see if there's a solution to this.
Thanks!

Sorry, but we are going to need more information to try to know what's the problem.Gregor.Zimmermann wrote:Hey everyone,

- When do you get this error, while rendering in the IPR?
- What is your houdini.env config file? It is important that the Houdini and Octane plugin build versions match to avoid problems.
- What are you system specs?
- Do you know if Standalone or other plugins work fine in this system?
Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks so much for getting back to me that quickly!
I hope, you can help me out based on my answers.
- When do you get this error, while rendering in the IPR?
Unfortunately this error comes up after like 1 or 2 mins into running Houdini. Doesn't matter if I work with it or not.
Also it doesn't matter if I open the IPR or not.
- What is your houdini.env config file? It is important that the Houdini and Octane plugin build versions match to avoid problems.
My file looks like this:
PATH = "C:\Octane_2020.1.5.3_Houdini_18.5.351_Win64\bin;$PATH"
HOUDINI_PATH = "C:\Octane_2020.1.5.3_Houdini_18.5.351_Win64;&"
HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2
I'm using Houdini 18.5.351 so they should match.
- What are you system specs?
Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19041
Ryzen 3900X
64 GB Ram
3090 + 1080Ti GPU
- Do you know if Standalone or other plugins work fine in this system?
I have no problem running Octane in Cinema4D. Standalone works as well, but I don't really use this.
I hope, you can help me out based on my answers.

Hmm, so do you say that Houdini crashes even if you are not rendering with Octane? This is really weird! I'm not sure if we are facing an Octane or a Houdini bug, to be honest. It could be great to know if you have the same problem while working with Houdini but with the Octane plugin uninstalled (commenting or removing the houdini.env variables).
Sometimes Houdini dumps a debug file to C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Local\Temp\houdini_temp with the name "crash.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx_log.txt" ... it could be great to check the latest log file in this folder just after one of these crashes.
Thanks,
-Juanjo

Okay, I'm not a hundred percent sure as of now, but I guess I fixed it.
I found a helpful comment on reddit

Basically a bug in the audio driver is causing this issue, if I understand this right.
Thanks so much for your fast reply, though!
