I have two 2080 in NVLINK and they fail when I have RTX on big scenes. What kind of steps can I take to troubleshoot this?

I have freshly upgraded 456.36 drivers with a clean install. 64 GB of RAM. Using Octane 2020.1.5

I can render no problem with RTX off.

Hi,
Guess you have turned the out of core on, turn it off, and see if the RTX works better.

I was not aware of the trick, what is it supposed to do?

I just tried it and it did not work, the GPUs failed a few seconds after RTX was enabled.

when RTX on, it takes more Vram than it is off, as you mentioned the scene is a big one,
perhaps your scene is exceed your Vram capacity(you can find the info for vram using at the bar below the rendering viewport), in this case you cannot turn RTX on,

Interesting thanks. I assume that OUT OF CORE VRAM does not count since RTX fails in this mode as well

afaik RTX and Ooc are not working well together means you cannot turn both on at the same time, till to current version,
It is heard this issue may be resovled in the version of 2020.2...
