Hello everyone,
is it possible to turn off the alpha shadows for specific objects only? My characters hair for example eats render time like crazy because of the shadows the opacity map casts. If i turn of alpha shadows in the render settings it is way faster but it affects other objects too obviously. So is there a way to only make the hair not cast alpha shadows?
Thanks

Hi,
unfortunately opacity maps are a killer for any Path Tracing renderer, so the best way is to avoid to use them as much as possible.
In 2020.1 now we have a new Hair material that works great with spline hair objects, have you tried it:

Guess i have to look at it again.
Also i found out that the opacity map my hair uses is just way too "detailed" or lacked contrast, i guess you know what i mean. I increaded its power to about 3 and the render time was cut in half

But i will take a closer look at the new hair material surely.
Thank you
