Hi, i belived i've just found the reason because my scene, when it's exporter through the Octane's plugin, appears very small, loosing my camera location. I think that in the options of the OBJ exporter, as you are working in "meters", you must change the value "Scale" to 1.0 instead of 0.01 as it's indicated in the screenshot at the top of the post. Please, check this and tell me buggy :)

Thank you KilaD and Arqrdl.

I think I have found a solution! If I check the Flip XY Axis (Poser-like), then I get the view I intended!
I wonder why other Max users appear to not need this set this way.

Other observations:

Moving the camera target to the object helps a lot -- I can now orbit around my scene objects.

I haven't edited the script at all. The error I listed is only if I uncheck Camera in the export dialog.
I also get another error: if I have the camera target selected, when I hit Render, I get: Runtime Error: Attempt to access deleted scene object.
I have to close the Octane dialog and open it again and make sure I have something else selected to overcome it.
Both these errors are no big deal since I can easily avoid them now that I know about them but I thought it might help to report them.

Before I found the solution, I tried compensating for the 90 degree tilt on the camera by tilting it 90 deg the opposite direction in Max, but it had no impact on the outcome (same with 180 deg tilt). I then tried orbiting the camera up so that it is looking down from above on the subjects and the result did change so that in Octane it is looking on from one side. Even so, after some panning and orbiting I couldn't get my camera into the desired position.

I find that the Pos and Target sliders in the Camera controls in Octane are extremely sensitive, so that I really can't use them. The scene flies off into outer space with the slightest adjustments. I suppose that this would mean typing in values by trial and error to get what one wants. I found that this is the case even in the sample demo files. How are these controls supposed to be used?
Is there no undo function in Octane?

Thanks again!

I should mention that I checked and my scale setting was set to 1.0.
Changing it to .1 or 10 seemed to make a big difference with my test files, but in one case it didn't.
I think I'll just keep it at 1. :)

Okay -- my bad. After looking at the images on page 1 again, I see that the Poser flip option is checked.
I suppose it isn't set that way by default and I overlooked it  . Well, live and learn.

Is there any chance we will see a complete max-to-octane osc scene converter that would support max splines, instances and max materials for some extent at least? I like Octane a lot but sadly it takes me more time in total to re-create all the materials in Octane than just render the scene with mental ray directly in Max. This makes the using of Octane quite ineffective.
Would be nice if the plugin could use other then just diffuse texture input from max standard material at least or offer a set of Octane materials in Max directly.

I CAN'T ACTIVATE THE MAX2OCTANE Toolbar. @_@ I am getting terribly frustrated now.

I don't see it under Customize UI>Toolbars even though I did the exact same thing as in the video.
