Hi,
I have this problem with the denoiser. Just got a new PC:
ASRock > TRX40 Creator
2 x 16 GB GSKILL 3200 DDR4
AMD 3960X threadripper
4 x RTX 2080 TI Asus Turbo
PSU : ENERMAX MAXREVO 1800W 80+GOLD
Octane : 2019.1.5
Nvidia studio drivers 441.66
All is well until I enable spectral AI denoiser on my cam. It's an instant crash, 100%.
It's really frustrating. I've read everything on this thread and I feel like there is no solution.
Octane is my main professional tool, please help me!
Shutdowns When Using Denoiser (RTX?)

Hi,
try to disable in rendering the first GPU connected to monitor, and use it only for AI Denoiser, in order to render with only 3x GPUs.
If it works, the issue is in the powering/PSU.
What is the frame resolution?
ciao Beppe

Hi, thanks for answering.bepeg4d wrote:Hi,

Yes, it works. But in theory the PSU is powerful enough for 4 GPU, so...
Isn't the problem coming octane itself that requires too much power for its denoiser?
I'm asking this because some people on this forum said they changed / added a PSU and it didn't change anything.
I don't have any issues with the optix denoiser in Arnold, for example.
EDIT : the frame resolution is just 1920x1080
Maybe it is not related to PSU but the way how Octane or NVidia driver using GPU that is connected to monitor. It must divide power to CUDA calculations and normal displaying tasks.

Honestly that's what worries me. I don't think this is a hardware issue. And no one @octane hasn't found a software solution. So i'm left with :SSmolak wrote:Maybe it is not related to PSU but the way how Octane or NVidia driver using GPU that is connected to monitor. - Not using the denoiser, denoise in After Effects.
- Not using all my GPUs... What a waste.
- Using Redshift or Arnold, but I really enjoy Octane.
Is anyone tried multi PSU configuration ?

This guy did...ricchezza wrote:Ok guys. It has nothing to do with the power issues or insufficient power supply. As i was recommended by the support i ve got myself a second PSU. Right now ive got 2900 watts of power. for 4 rtx2080ti. And it still crashes. Even with 1 card assigned for denoiser. So guys if anybody faces the same issue - DO NOT buy additional ram (as i was recommended firstly) and DO NOT buy additional PSU. Those are not the cause of the issue. Not the frequencies, not the temperatures. I dunno what is the cause really.
p.s. It is also not the octane version that matters. Just tried 4.04 instead of 2018.1.3 - crashes in the same way.
Hi bloomis2,
try to power one of the GPUs with another PSU (650W should be enough).
Normally Octane is constant in power consumption, but AI Denoiser is different, and arrives to the peaks of power consumption, so what is normally working could not be enough with AI Denoiser, especially with RTX 20180 TI.

Try set power limit in Afterburner to 90-95 % and see what happen.

Any solution to this yet?
Just started using a pair of 2080tis and upgraded to enterprise edition
All fine until the denoise stage starts.
Then it's total instant shutdown due to power loss and need to unplug at the wall for a bit.
Using a 1200w suppy
3dsMax plugin
Octane 2020.1 RC2 10.06
Knackered if I can't use the denoiser...
