Although I really love Octane, the material editor is little difficult to use.
There are too many sliders to control, they all look the same, and the titles are not too obvious.
A very good example of material editor is the one that fry has.

Another user proposed a layout change that already makes things more compact and it's easier to navigate.

I agree that GE and NI can be improved.

I agree that GE and NI can be improved.
Even that layout seems confusing to me.
Sliders take up too much space while numerical buttons (i mean arrows) would be more convenient, leaving enough white space for the material editor.

But it's a start to make things more compact.

I like how Blender combines input possibilities: buttons can be input fields - if you click on them you can type in values, or they can be sliders - if you click and drag. Lots of them have arrows at the extremities, to change the value by one step. All this functionality is presented in one control, thus a lot of space is saved. Also what the control changes, is written directly on it, not needing a separate label.
