Hi Guys,

I hope I didn't break something, I created a material (Polished Marble) and tried to save it on to the live db site. I didn't get an error but now when I go to the organic->stone material list nothing is displayed. I think there were two or three other materials in that list before I saved mine, but I'm unable to see them as well. I tried quitting Octane and then restarting it but no luck. :(

Also it there a way to name the input pins? The only way I have found to name them is to save them but that doesn't appear to work very well. Is there something I'm missing, or is it in the works? Thank you for an awesome program, I'm having lots of fun! 8-)

Hmmm now I'm having another problem. :( I saved the material as an ocs file before I attempted to upload it to the live db site. Now when I load that same ocs file and click on the material node (either to have Octane start to render it or to double click on it to open it) Octane crashes. I noticed that the material node no longer has a input pin for the bool smoothing value. If I double click it, it opens and I can see that everything looks fine, then Octane crashes with the following error:

Code: Select all

$ ./octane
ERROR: Program executed illegal instruction.. terminating
Here is the ocs file:

I don't know if this is related to the live db problem or not? Thanks again,

Grimm

That file crashes Octane for me.

Can you try re-creating it from scratch again and document your steps so we can try to track it down?

it's likely due to an embedded image, can you try one with a procedural like turbulence instead ?

Thnx,

Here's the contents of the macro right before Octane crashes. It doesn't appear to be due to an image.

As far as naming the nodes, just type in the Node Inspector and hit the enter key to make the node retain the newly typed name.

I was able to recreate the basic setup that you produced and it worked fine. Try it again from scratch to see if the issue goes away.

You can download my example here: (Right click, save target as...)

Thanks PhilBo, Radiance,

Yep, the whole macro was procedural. I did notice in your image PhilBo that the turbulence node was no longer connected to the mix node which was not the case when I saved it. I will try and make a new one from scratch tonight. In fact before I tried to send the material to the live db site I had just deleted some other test nodes. I also had been moving/removing node links, adding/deleting nodes the whole time I was building the macro. Don't know if that would make a difference or not. I will also try naming the nodes with the Node Inspector, I thought I did that but I'm not sure. Thanks again,

Grimm

P.S. Just thinking a bit more about the macro and I remembered that I had some problems re-linking nodes that I had previously unlinked or links to deleted nodes. It would take a couple of tries before they would take and link up again or to a new node.

I finally got to do some testing on this. I first opened up Octane fresh and loaded PhilBo's ocs file, here are the results:

Image

Notice that it didn't come in too well. :( Here is what the material node looks like when I opened it:

Image

It didn't crash Octane though, just didn't load right. I went ahead and created a new material, using a freshly started Octane, that looked like this:

Image

I saved the node as a ocm file and then restarted Octane. When I loaded the ocm file the node looked like this:

Image

Notice the missing input pins. When I tried to view the node Octane crashes. Here is the ocm file:

It's starting to look like the problem is either my system (wrong libraries, etc) or there is an issue with the linux version. Does any other linux users have the same problems? Also I tried to rename the input nodes using the inspector but it didn't work, when I clicked on the node all that happened was a drop-down box that said "no options". Typing letters appeared to make no difference. Thanks,

Grimm

This appears to be related to the input nodes. I was able to confirm that the files saved and opened correctly until I added the input pins.

I'll submit a bug report.
