Hi

I am having some problems with hairfarm 2.6.3

It seems octane only renders the hairs that are visible in the viewport.
Lets say i generate 2million hairs but i tell hairfarm, only to display 10% in the viewport.
I still expect to render 2million at rendertime. but octane only renders the 10% that is displayed in viewport.

You might think, "so just sett it to display 100%"

Well there is 2 issues to that aswell.
1- the viewport will struggel BIGTIME
2- hairfarm seem to have a limit to only display 1mill in viewport anyways.

as a side note, modifiers that seem to deal with "at rendertime" sometimes bugs out. i have had issues with turbosmooth aswell. dont know if this is related to this problem.

I am using 3ds max 2019.3
Octane render 4.02.1 - 6.14

Thank you for the reply paride.

But the settings you are pointing to is a part of the issue.

As my example above.

If i have 2 000 000 in the "Hair count" slot.
100% in "Precentage"
and 50 000 in "Max Hairs"

It will still only render 50 000 because that's what is displayed in the viewport.
While i expect it to render 2 000 000 hairs because that's the hair count i have set to generate.

And from what i can see i can only crank up "max hair" to "999 999"

In other words, that seems to limit octane to only be able to render 999 999 strands of hair or lower.

Atleast this is how it behaves at my end.
Does it work differently at you end Paride?

Cheers

Hi stir,
I tried doing tests using scanline, these my findings:
I think the problem using Octane, it's just about the "viewport Display" feedback.
as you can see, the 99999 limit does not depend on Octane, it works as in scanline render.
the only issue (it seems to me) is that Octane does not follow hair count in parameters panel but the settings in viewport Display panel.
these are my two cents. what do you think about it?

Yes - I think we are saying the same thing :)
Octane is rendering what it sees in the viewport (preview)

And that is not ideal - When i am grooming a animal with fur, i will need a high haircount. probably more then 3ds max can show in the viewport. how do i workaround that?

YES Paride!!

Always wondered what that "notify object on render" was good for.
This solves it!
Thank you so much

"notify object on render" isn't that option for render settings vs viewport settings ?
