Houdini crash at saving file Octane 2018.1.0.3

waw,

wookay so adding .exr at the end of the image file path/prefix seems to resolve the problem.
which is strange as the .exr is anyway added as you render a file (with exr dropdown menu selected to exr).
This might be because of azerty keyboard what you think ?
now, trying rendering frames here and there in timeline to see if it's still rendering okay/.

seems like " $F4 " is not working : the image number is not implemented into final image file name

Hmm, but does it crash, or is it saving the PNG file without the frame number?

so to sum it up,

> don't put empty geo in your scene put a box and disable geo node visibility : it adds lots of errors in the log file + probably more troubles
> don't render png (anyway who does except me ! : it causes houdini to just crash
> add the file extension type in your rop parameters, like add ".exr" at the end of the name after the "$F4" if you render an exr seq :


Might be some stuff for you JuanJgon for future problem solving diagnostics.

as for pngs, they crash the app, but exr don't.

Read my 2 previous posts, the case is resolved

i'm sorry i wrote a lot and keeping being track of where i am (in my investigations) is a bit confusing
but this post with those numerous replies kept me being aware of what i've done and what i had tried so far, what works and what's not.

Got a similar weird issue last week : not saving or "banded" files.
In this scenario : large resolution higher than 5K+pass+png.
Everything is ok with exr, kinda weird.
