Hi guys,
Just thought I'd put this out there- So I've been getting instant computer shutdowns (power just cuts off) 100% rate when animation rendering Octane to the picture viewer (C4D R20). Never happens in IPR mode.
It is not my PSU. I finally narrowed it down to it being the Denoiser. When I turn off the denoiser there are no shutdowns, everything is fine and dandy. I later found a very similar issue in this Lightwave thread in our forum...
(RTX 2080 ti and Ai Denoise Issue)

Looks like there may be an issue with the RTX series, and I am using four RTX 2080 ti's.
Anyone else on here with this issue? Have any of the developers started to address this? Btw, great work with the denoiser, it is really amazing and it would be great to be able to use it in production.
Thanks,
-Alex
Shutdowns When Using Denoiser (RTX?)

Octane version and resolution? Temperatures and having a PSU which is enough for four 2080ti?
Octane For Cinema 4D developer / 3d generalist
3930k / 16gb / 780ti + 1070/1080 / psu 1600w / numerous hw

I had the same problem (but 3ds max user here). I know you said its not the PSU but in my case i thought it too.
Then some day I noticed during some tests the 12V rail was not stable and gave 10.6V some time. This made the whole computer shut down in certain conditions. So I got a new PSU and all was fine.

4.01 and tried the recent 4.02. None of them work with the denoiser. Only works in IPR. I have tried 1920 x 1080 and 1080 x 1080, and 960 x 540. All shutdown on either the first or second frame. Big or tiny scene file, does not matter. It is the denoiser.aoktar wrote:Octane version and resolution? Temperatures and having a PSU which is enough for four 2080ti?
I have more than enough watts on my PSU and I tested it. I never get shut offs like this, this is why I said it is not my PSU. My temperatures are normal. Shutdown occurs instantly ONLY when rendering an animation + denoiser. I also use Redshift 3d and no shutdowns. Nothing here points to PSU.
IPR works 100% fine, therefore not the PSU. IPR never shuts my computer off.
It is quite simple...
Denoiser ON = computer shuts off IF rendering animation to picture viewer
Denoiser OFF = no problems, no shut downs

Hi,
what happen if you press the Lock icon in Live View with AI Denoiser active, to render at same resolution as Picture Viewer ?
Do you mind to share a screenshot of Octane Settings/Devices panel?
ciao Beppe

Here you go Beppe. Thanks.bepeg4d wrote:Hi,

V4.02.1-R2 (also done this in 4.01 stable as well- no problems in IPR)
1920 x 1080 HD I use the lock all the time and never experienced a shutdown.

I can scrub through the timeline at this size pretty smoothly. No problems, temps nice and low. Quick note: Even if I create a brand new and empty c4d doc with 1 plane created and render that in the picture viewer, it still shuts off ONLY when using the denoiser. Scene load has no impact.

Hi,
weird, have you tried to disable the first GPU for rendering, and use it only for denoising?
Or to assign the denoiser to another GPU?
My suggestion is to check the CPU settings and voltage.
ciao Beppe

I tried with different gpus. I'm only getting shutdowns with denoiser ON, on any of the other cards.
I also use Redshift 3D, and never get shutdowns. CPU is default, no overclocking. Temps at peak are around 45c. I have a 1600w PSU so I have more wattage than I need.
No other plugin or app is giving me shutdowns. Only Octane >animation< renders in >Picture Viewer< cause a shutdown. Rendering in standalone causes no shutdowns BUT, I do see hotpixels that were not there before. (see image) I never had any hotpixels before in this scene.

Hi,
my suggestion is to share the report and orbx scene with the devs via PM, in the following discussion:

UPDATE!
I just purchased a brand new threadripper workstation, completely new machine, same shutdown issues with Octane C4d plugin with denoiser only when rendering an animation. There is either something wrong on Otoy's end or with Nvidia's RTX or drivers (which I have tried quite a few) . I am guessing this is a pretty reproducible critical bug since my two workstations are two different architectures- intel i7 and AMD 2950x.
In the end, a lot of time and money was wasted I really hope this issue gets resolved. If the lightwave octane plugin of this same issue is any indication, this will just be silently ignored as it was in that thread.
