Hi, I'm kind of stuck trying to get rid of a lot of noise, firefly noisy noise, generated by a light inside a glass sphere. I've got a big lightbulb in my scene, as in a two sided glass sphere with an object (filament) inside with a straight forward emission material.

I've turned on fake shadows which reduces it a bit, are there any other settings to make the emission material ignore the glass bulb?

Fake shadows usually does the trick. There are a couple of old threads about lightbulbs here on the forum you should check out. If you still are having problems, post a small sample scene to demonstrate the problem. Good luck!

Here's the scene. Yeah not sure what else... I need that light to cast shadows but it can ignore the glass. Maybe a limitation on octane, i dunno?

What's weird is I have a very similar setup in another scene but the noise is a bit less, but it's still noisy. The denoiser gets rid of the fireflies in the other one but makes a mess in this one. Any ideas?

ahh yes I see, good thinking, thanks for that. You have to have quite a big light with this setup but it's much cleaner. Could work for me, I'll give it a go, that thing is supposed to spin to make a flashing light so if it still flashes with such a big it light it should work.

I guess that kind light <> object exclusion is beyond octane for technical reasons as I understand it. I haven't used it much, but redshift can do this kind of thing right? not sure why it wouldnt be possible in octane. But then again I can't code my own gpu render engine so what do i know
