Hi guys,

Is there anyone who can show me what i'm doing wrong. I can't get ANY meaningful rounding of edges out of octane. Maybe i remembered wrong but i seem to remember that you guys said more work on that feature in post 3.08 and especially in 4.0 will be done but i still get same "nothing" good out of rounding. My simple 6 sided BOX is fully sharp on edges and i just get bad shading no matter which percentage (or float) i use :(.

I tried in LW plugin an din Standalone and it looks same/bad so i suppose it's Octane CORE issue ? Or this is broken now in 4.0 RC4 ?

Thanks

I'm not sure what you are expecting, but I think of the edge radius option as a "just break the sharp corners" tool, not a true rounding/modeling tool. For instance, a radius of 1 cm on a 200 cm cube works fine. I use it all the time, but I don't expect more from it than this:

hmm, can you show me your geometry how many sides/polys your box have ?

I can't get anything similar, can you maybe save ORBX and upload so i can examine your settings ?

Thanks

mac user here and getting immediate crash after running the octane app. the new dylib was downloaded and installed, but octane can never reach the interface screen. crashlog see attachment. any other mac users are having the same issue? the same happens with the octane LW plugin. is it a core problem?

EDIT: after trying to restart a few times the octane app it now reaches the interface screen but goes into non responding mode. it will force one CPU core to work and will not let any other app go to front. force quit is the only option...

EDIT2:i seem to be able to fix the app crash when i copy the libcudnn.7.dylib file inside the app bundle "Content" folder and restart the app! so maybe there's something wrong with the dylib installation process?

This might be related to the issue we also have on Linux. We fixed a bug in that area and will update the Linux and OSX builds today. After the update please try again and let us know if that solves your issue.

Sure thing. The sample .orbx is very simple, single poly per face geometry. Edges made from lots of poly segments will definitely show specular artifacts when the rounding number is greater than, "just break the edge". Here's a shot of the kind of thing I use it for in real life: breaking the edges of small machine parts and such. It's definitely not perfect. For high res still images I'd still model in the tiny bevels/radii, but for animations, the material edge rounding is good enough. Unfortunately, I can't upload the source file for that, but it's the same basic setup.

As a data point, we are using a very similar workstation hardware setup: Mac Pros 5,1, OS 10.12.6, EGPU 1080 ti, but RC 4 seems to be working fine for us. We just let Octane install the new library where it wants to.

If it makes any difference, we're on web driver 378.05.05.25f04, CUDA 387.178

interesting, same CUDA driver here, but different web driver: 378.05.05.25f10

I've been using the automation script from egpu.io to setup our EGPU machines, and I've been very happy with fr34k's work.

https://github.com/goalque/automate-eGPU
https://egpu.io/forums/mac-setup/automa ... for-macos/

I'm not one to assume the latest is necessarily the greatest. As I understand it, the script doesn't, either, but checks a database of known compatible/stable installations for various combinations of hardware. Plus, when a system is stable and working, don't mess with it! :)
