Hi!

I have a problem animating a gradient which isn't rendering correctly.

I want to animate a "stripe" across the length of a cylinder using a C4D gradient but the gradient doesn't move correctly. If I restart IPR on any frame the stripe is exactly where it should be it's just if I press play and let it move to the next frame the gradient still won't animate properly until I restart the IPR again. I get the same issue with Picture Viewer so I can't render my job (which is a paid client job so I'm desperate to resolve this).

It would be a massive help if someone could check my scene and tell me what they think the problem might be. If you look at the timeline you can see the keyframes showing how long it should take for the stripe to move the length of the cylinder.

Here's my scene file with assets:

I tried a few things, and didn't a real solution.
It feels like there is something else in the material throwing it off. I piped your gradient in the diffuse of a new material and it works fine.

Thanks!

That's interesting. I think there is something going on with emission. I noticed the other day that when I used emission on X-Particles trails which were skinned either with a Sweep or Octane Hair, the emission always renders on the reverse side of the normals (so the inside of the "tube".

I wonder if there is some sort of projection bug when using emission.

I just did another test but this time using the Universal shader and this time I had no problems at all. I'd still like to resolve when using with Mix Materials though.

There's not any logic like "not animating correctly". But can be a problem on the refreshing of the material.

Hi Kraig,

This seems to be working:
Add the slightest of animation on one of your transform nodes.
This will give the material something else to refresh like Ahmet mentioned.
