Spoke slightly too soon - it did crash using R17 3.08 when I tried to add a z-depth pass - but only when I raised the Z-depth max samples from 5 to 50.

Ive opted to not render a Z-depth pass for the time being and render out all the parts that dont use the alembic files - but I still need to find a solution for R19.

Thanks

Still OK for me with z-depth(50).
Here's a frame.

Thanks for letting me know
Im starting to think it might be a hardware issue - im running 4 gpus on an X99-EWS motherboard and ive been reading a few threads saying that others have found issues of crashing with the same setup.

Im going to take them out one by one and see if that changes anything.

Will report back once ive done some tests.

Update - it seems that removing one GPU stops the crashing...

I tried a few different combinations and positions and every time 4 GPUs crashed octane but 3 seemed to be stable (only 30mins or so of testing so far).

Seems weird that it can handle all 4 in R17 but not in R19? And only with passes enabled does it crash?
Also quite frustrating that I now have a card sat out doing nothing while I render!

I wonder if anyone has had luck solving the X99-EWS with 4 card crashing issue? Ive seen a few threads, but no solid solutions.

Any thoughts or directions would be great.

Another update - after scouring many forums and threads I think I have found a solution:

I enabled Above 4G Decoding in my BIOS settings and for the last hour or so - no crashes.

The setting is supposed to be for recognising more than 4 GPUs, but it seems to have done the trick - fingers crossed that it stays this way.

Glad you got it sorted!

Another update - ive been using it all day and it crashed twice on me - both times when I was trying to use an internet browser at the same time as it was rendering a sequence - I could then repeat the crash by basically trying to use another app like a web browser or mail, while it renders.

I also have had it render out two sequences that both took over 2 hours each and it was fine - just seems like I have to leave everything else alone while it renders or it might crash.

So its definitely a lot more stable that yesterday, but still temperamental.
