Hi, Refracty,

Thanks for following up on this.

We are planning to have a beta test release of the refactor version early next year if everything goes well.
However, if we support 3.07 on this current set of plugin code, then it may drag us few more months including bug fix and wait for it to be stable.

We understand everyone has been waiting few months for the refactored version. so, is it alright to wait few more months?
Kind Regards

Personally, considering how long the plugin refactoring is taking, I'm willing to keep pushing out the release date of the refactored plugin as needed so that the current Maya implementation can continue to be up to date.

It would be a different story if the plugin refactor was looking to be released soon, but as it stands, the launch date is already really far off (4-6 months minimum before it's "stable"?)...Considering that, I'd rather make sure our current plugin stays up to date, as needed, even if it keeps pushing the refactored plugin.

@itsallgood,
Personnaly I prefer to have the refactored plugin sooner which will use the 3.08 sdk and some long awaited fix, instead of an intermediate 3.07 version which will be waste of development time and no essential improvement.
On the contrary 3.08 is a major release with very important new features, did you test the new anisotropy or the complex ior metal for example in standalone 3.08 ?

@Bikram,
So yes i'm ok to wait 2month for the refactored plugin, as I understand that going back to the old development branch to release an intermediate version would make loose again some months...
But can you confirm that once the refactored 3.08 plugin is here, the release cycle come back to normal ?

Hi, itsallgoode9,

Thank you for your suggestion.

As you know, if we work on this current set to support 3.07 then it may take extra time on top of the estimated 2 months, just to add backward file compatibility.
It would be very hard if we keep on going back and forth to deliver everyone, a finished product.

Your support will only let us catch up with the Octane Standalone features on our refactored version. However, I will give an update soon on this regard.

We are considering for an extensive test with our power users before we release a beta test. so, the plugin would be in much better shape, even as a Beta test and maybe taking few weeks to make it stable.
Also, we plan to support the 3rd plugins one by one. This means we would have a fully Stable version in our hand and a test version that is working with the 3rd party plugin.

As an update, the internal translation system of the refactored plugin will be running differently from this current version helping us to add/support new features.
We would also find a working motion blur and few other new features like new node system ;)
Kind Regards

Hi Calus, Thank you !! yes, exactly 3.08 has major feature support. By the time we finish support 3.07 sdk, there will be 3.08 stable.

As soon as we have the refactored version, our release cycle will come back to normal.
Kind Regards

I figured different users would have different opinions--just putting mine out there too :)

If I had any faith that the "beginning of the year" won't turn into spring..turning into summer... turning into this time next year and we have still have no refactored plugin and still have our old obsolete plugin, multiple versions behind the other plugin users, I would gladly wait for the plugin refactor. Unfortunately, based on history of Maya plugin, there's not a whole lot to make me think any different outcome will happen.

Regardless, I have no choice but to put my faith in you guys, so I'll try to be quiet and wait.
