OK I have found the problem. My guess was correct.I could not shut down Octane after It had frozen so i closed it using Windows Task manager and saw a save Project yes no box that was hidden under the splash screen.Octane was waiting for a response to save the project which i could not see.The Splash screen was over the top of it all of the time. The Splash screen is what is in need of fixing.

Tried the exporter with the latest release this morning (Pre23 v4).Octane crashes using the render button.the exporter will export materials and objects fine using the export button,it will Just will not boot up Octane itself when using the render button.I have pointed it to the latest exe file within the exporter and have also set permissions in Win7 for the .exe file to run as adminstrator to see if that helps but to no avail.Running win7 64bit.Octane runs ok if started up on its own, just not with the exporter. It maybe that there is a requirement to put in some command line arguments along with pointing the exporter to the exe file to get it to work.I'm not sure.Any suggestions.Currently just exporting objects and materials within the exporter and manually loading them after running octane.

I'm having a similar problem.

Vista 64bit
3ds Max 2011 64bit
Octane Render v1.022b beta2.2b
Cuda 3.0

The exporter will export the geometry but as soon as Octane tries to display it, it crashes. I've tried it on different systems and the same thing happens. No problems when using Octane directly with .objs.

Nvidia Geforce 9800gt (x2)

I've just been trying the plugin for the first time today, using the latest pre2.3 release. I can't seem to get multiple objects into Octane as separate objects - it keeps importing them as a single mesh. I applied a separate standard material to each but no joy. Is this a glitch, or am I missing a step?

I set the export options to match your screen grab in the first post.

Thanks in advance

I have had the same problem.I ended up making sure the various mesh's have different names in Max.When imported they showed up as seperate wires. However when i used 1 material to two elements in my scene they imported as 1 mesh but with the maps correctly applied. Not sure that helps but check it out

Thanks - I did try that. Each object has a unique name and a unique material. I also tried it with just a simple scene with a sphere, box, and a camera. Same result.

Bug?

Sorry i got it wrong.

I have done a test.

Objects imported from max,at least using the .obj exporter in max seem to work based on the materials applied to each object.

EG if you have 6 objects in max and apply a different material to each of those objects then you get 6 objects in Octane. Each object named after the material name you applied to it.If you apply 1 material in Max to all 6 objects in the scene then you get 1 object in Octane with that material name....and so on.If you do not apply any materials in Max to the 6 objects then they appear in Octane as an object based on the default material applied during their creation and are called wire xxxxxxxxx with the xxx as a number.

Hope that helps.
