Hi Elevux,
for good caustic you need:
  • - a tiny and powerful light source like sun.
    - a good water surface deformation to have the nice caustic patterns
    - an intersecting plane with Specular material, index 1.33, no fake shadow, and eventually a bit of dispersion.
    - PMC kernel with Parellel at 1

Just wondering if You could make an emission mask for the caustic, if nothing else works. Duplicate the water surface, make a caustic alpha mask, and make it emission, and turn the opacity down , like a Gel light effect.

Be sure to turn off "Fake Shadows" on your water material. Use transmission to color the water. Increase samples and or GI clamp for more details. Use a sun light with small size.
