Hey guys, I've got a tricky scene. I'm rendering multiple TV screens, under a transparent cloth, sitting in a dark forest.
The emission textures (TV screens) are the only source of light because I went them to illuminate the environment. I have a little SSS fog to pick up the light coming from the TVs

Any tips on optimizing this render? These are my current settings.

My main concern is noise. Right now I'm at 6min a frame and still got lots of noise dancing around.

This is for animation . Thanks!!

Hi ktonkin,
very interesting but complex scene to render.
Note that you have the Coherent ratio active, but the Static noise unticked, so a bit of flickering is expected.
Please, enable the Static noise option, set the Parallel sampling to 16, and Max tile to 32 for final rendering to speedup the calculation.
If you switch to 3.06.2 you can enable the Adaptive sampling, increase the Coherent ratio, and reach an higher sampling level in the same amount of time, with less noise.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try updating my Octane and use Adaptive Sampling.
It took a lot of trial and error to get a working version of Octane. Most of the versions either crashed or weren't recognized by my Cinema4D. Usually the "octane" tab would just be blank and I couldn't pull up the Live Viewer.

I'll update it now and hope for the best :D

Yeah its weird, if I update my Octane beyond the "3.03.2-R5" release then nothing works. Cinema4d shows an "octane" menu but there's nothing in it.

Also, I have the use the "c4dOctane_R17.dylib" in my plugins folder even though I'm using c4d r18. If I delete the r17 plugin then it breaks.

If anyone can relate to this, please let me know if there's a solve :)

Hello,

For the plugin, you could try this one: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=60816

Maybe an explanation for the crashes and problems?
You'll need to update your Cinema 4D to latest versions(16.050, 17.053 or 18.039). Otherwise the plugin will not work and not appear in menus.
For the TV screens, i suggest also to try a pure black color in Diffuse of the materials with emitter. This should help for the noise.
Only my feeling, i would try to put a higher Caustic Blur than zero to speed up the render. Maybe something around 0.3.
