Hi folks,
I have a problem with phong smoothing and small bumps in C4D. Any Ideas to solve this?

Thanks and kind regards,
Arne

Can't attach the C4D file ... :-( But it's an easy setup. Gradient with a 0.05 uniform transformed noise lit by a area light.

Hi Arne,
please check if in the Common tab of material you have unticked the Smoothing option.
Is this a standard c4d sphere, or imported from other 3d app?

This happened also on other objects. I first recognized it on a ffd formed loft. And than I tested it with different spheres (native cinema). It's more visible the smaller the bump is. And it doesn't matter if its a bitmapped bump or a procedural one. And even in an fresh scene with restarted workstation.

Hi,
you need more subdivisions with Octane, only 25 are not enough, especially with high bump values, note also the borders of the spheres:

Hi Beppe,
thanks for your answer. I'll work with more subdivisions. I also found this solution. I'm new to octane and even C4D so I'm afraid to mis a button or two ... :-)

Thanks again and regards,
Arne
