I generally use Lightwave on OS X with both TFD and Octane. But I've not had the need to use them together until now. I do have Lightwave on a Windows PC, but without TFD or Octane plugins installed.
I checked many (if not all) the posts on how to set up Octane to use TFD cache data, including all of Juanjgon's. It all makes sense if I was doing it on a Windows machine, but there is not ONE post on setting this up under OS X.
I would like to do it on OS X if possible since that would better fit my workflow.
When I open the Octane plugin options and set the path to the TFD plugin
(/Applications/NewTek/LightWave3D_2015.3/support/plugins/TurbulenceFD_LW_v1-0_1416/TurbulenceFD_1416.plugin)
there is no "TFD_loader_64.p" file, since .p files are a Windows only plugin type.
On OS X the plugin is called "TurbulenceFD_1416.plugin".
But using that path, IPR crashes every time, and if I try to do a frame-render F9, I get the error message,
TDF library not found in "/Applications/NewTek/LightWave3D_2015.3/support/plugins/TurbulenceFD_LW_v1-0_1416/TurbulenceFD_1416.plugin"
The frame-render then proceeds and I get everything rendered BUT the TFD effect.
So does TFD & Octane in Lightwave only work on Windows?

Hi,
In theory it should work, but I'll check it because perhaps there is a problem with the TFD API version used to compile the plugin. The TFD API used by the plugin is the 1425, that is the latest Windows one, but I've just seen that the latest TFD available for OSX is the 1416 one, not sure why.
Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks, Juanjo. If I can be of any assistance, let me know.
If it can't be made to work, please let me know. Also if it can't be made to work, you should include that in the documentation for the plugin.
I can switch to Windows if need be, but it makes my workflow slower and more complicated. I'd very much prefer to get this working on OS X.
Again, thanks!

Ok. I've tested it and you are right ... somehow the LW plugin doesn't want to work with TFD on OSX. I am investigating this issue because I am sure that TFD and the OSX plugin were working some time ago.
Anybody else working on OSX has the same issue?
Thanks,
-Juanjo

I've sent an email to the TFD team about this issue. I don't know why now the Octane plugin doesn't want to initialize the TFD plugin on OSX, but I am fairly sure that it was working in the first releases of the plugin with TFD support.
I hope to know more about this issue soon.
Thanks,

The problem with TFD and the LightWave Octane plugin on OSX was an issue on the TFD plugin. Jascha has just released a new OSX LightWave plugin (1427) that should have this problem fixed.
The Octane for LightWave 3.06.4.0 plugin just released today is not built using this 1427 TFD API (I didn't have it yet when the build was done), so perhaps the plugin can't work with it. In this case, please let me know to release a new plugin build of OSX.
Thanks,

Hi Juanjo,
Thanks for getting this fixed. But as you suspected with this today's released version of the plugin, it still gives the same error:
I hope you can update the Octane plugin soon to work with the new TFD fix
Again, many thanks!
