I'm using the latest Octane (downloaded today), with Revit 2017, and receive the following message when trying to start a render:
Exception starting render : System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at OctaneRenderPlugin.CameraChangeMonitor..UpdateValues(View3D view)
at OctaneRenderPlugin.CameraChangeMonitor..ctor()
at OctaneRenderPlugin.RenderManager.CreateCameraMonitor()
at OctaneRenderPlugin.RenderManager.StartRender()
Octane Release number is 3.6.5.46
Revit Release number is 17.0.1128.0 / 20170419_0315(x64) / 2017.2.1.

I'm also seeing a TimerTickEvent error (see attachment) when Octane starts rendering. If this error occurs, Revit crashes.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks,
tim

Hi - is this problem happening on all scenes, or just one? What was the previous version you had installed?

It happens on multiple scenes, but so far only in this one file. I think I have been using the same (most recent) version for a while - I just updated it today because of the error, in the hope that it was a configuration problem of some kind. I was not able to get any of the views I tried today to render from this file.

I'll try to do some experiments tomorrow to see if there is some kind of pattern. I have done an audit on the Revit file: no errors were reported by the audit, but the Octane problem persists.

Regards,
tim

Would it be possible to send me the .rvt file pls? I need to determine if it's a specific issue with that file, or a general bug that has been introduced to the plugin. Those errors are indicating there is a problem with the Revit Camera/View.

I sent a PM with a link to the file. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it.

Thanks,
Tim

I have investigated this issue, and it is a corrupted Revit View or sun settings. About 50% of the time, even without Octane loaded, just selected the views which cause this error will lock up Revit. So there are issues with those Views, and they should be recreated. I have added some checking in the next release of the plugin which will notify you of this problem.

Thanks - I came to the same conclusion, as I discovered the views won't render using Autodesk's cloud renderer either.
