Hello mates,
Need a little advice about upgrading my GPU WS (see pics)
Got 3x780Ti; 1 display EVGA in 16x slot and 2xGigabyte on risers (down/right)
Down right I got 2 intake fans blowing cold air over 2 cards on risers and 3 outtake fans (up) pulling hot air out.
My temps on full load are 73C max for EVGA and 65C max on 2xGigabyte.

Now I would like to upgrade my WS with one 1080Ti and make it main GPU and move EVGA 780Ti to riser next to those 2 GPUs down/right.
Maybe later purchase one more 1080Ti and insert it in 16x slow at MBO bottom (MBO is Asus Z87-PRO).

So, regarding airflow what would be your advice, to buy founders edition (air intake) or after market GPU with 3fans?
Examples:
FE

https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ ... 080TI-11G/
or
AM
https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ ... 1G-GAMING/
http://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/G ... -X-11GD#kf

Also, on upgraded rig with 4/5 gpus, should I maybe consider reversing airflow, 3 upper fans intake and lower/left 2 fans outtake?

Thank you.

custom made mount with one GPU, after upgrade there should be 3GPUs on mount

I was thinking the same thing - now find a comparison in temps between the strix one and factory one.. the strix is like 10 degrees lower temp and is a larger card overall - I recently made an order for strix ones on account of the tests, I think it was like 10-12 degrees less..

chekc this.. 67 C vs 80 something

I was interested in AM models but saw comments that Founder Edition is better for packed rigs because of air intake.
So if I got AM model they would pick hot air coming from those cards on mount.
FE models would intake cool air from outside, like in pic bellow.

Also, there is OC version of Asus Strix GTX1080Ti which is +20€. Does OC play any role in Octane rendering?

overclocking, sure, pimping the processing unit up gives more speed, I was aiming for that card

.. yeah I don't know about the packed rigs.. if those are the same people claiming a good airflow is better than an open case - I would disagree - after packing in 10 fans, I discovered opening both sides is the best option, unfortunately..
- the strix card is physically larger by 10-15% so you might get more heat dissipation there - and with open case you'll probably get more air coming in..

.. I'm voting strix.. if anyone has more information, I'll be happy to read into

Yeah, I would be also be more happy with low noise card, so I would prefer strix.

Hm, just tested GTX1060 from son's computer and Octane bench 3.06 give me score of 98.
Also tested my current rig (3x780Ti) with 3.06 and got result of 295. I tested with OB2.17 and I got 313.
Also tested every card separately and I got:
EVGA ACX in 16x PCI-E slot =102
Gigabyte GV-N78TOC-3GD riser on 1xPCI-E slot =90
Gigabyte GV-N78TGHZ-3GD riser on 1xPCI-E slot= 92
and sum of that is 284.
Why lower results in 3.06 and why lover when tested separately?
Is it possible that 1060 performs as fast as 780Ti?
?
Thanx

Guys warning on the 1080ti strix oc - it's about 10% wider - about 1cm.. it's a monster, you will not fit two of those next to each other - I was surprised, I almost ordered two, I wouldn't be able to fit two of those on the same board

- on the up side - it doesn't go over 60 C - compared to 79-72 on 980ti.. it's wonderful with cooling
