Hi,
OK, so this is very confusing for me, and I've tried figuring out the best way to make this work.
So under the Render Settings, there is a Save section which allows you to save out your image.
However, under Octane Render, there is the Render Passes section where you can save out images with passes.
What if I ONLY ant the Octane Render passes image to be saved and NOT the main render file that C4D wants to save?
How do I do that?
If I uncheck the Save checkbox and add the project to the render queue, it still puts something in the Output File, even if I have nothing saved.
What if I only want one file with the render passes to be exported?
Maybe I'm missing something here...
Thanks,
Jim

I've had this issue too, and it was discussed here viewtopic.php?f=30&t=52798 as well.
I haven't found a workaround either, so I generally just let the render settings save area dump out a small jpeg to my dropbox so I can remotely check in on my render progress.
