As promised:
OCTANE 2.2
2 Palit Sonic GTX 460 2GB @700MHz (factory overclocked from 675 MHz)
Nvidia drivers- 258.96 WHQL 19.07.2010
GPU temperatures and fan speeds - 71 degrees C for GPU1/47% fan speed
76 degrees C for GPU2/62% fan speed
Pathtracing result- 3.17 Megasamples/sek
OCTANE 2.3
Pathtracing result- 2.90 Megasamples/sek
P.S. Can't wait for the GTX 460 fix.

Thanks, these are the numbers i need. So currently, it's roughly ~3 Megasamples/sec (can we shorten it to e.g. "Msm/s" ?) and with full cores working it'll be around 4.5, or ~2.25 per chip, that's still a bit low, though still within %20 compared to 470... i thought/hoped it'll be closer to ~2.5. well let's hope there's still room for improvements...julianb wrote:As promised:

if they keep the 320-bit buswidth then 2560 MB, but hadn't heard of it coming -- don't count on it. Seems that the would-be-470 chips are getting 'dumped' into quadro 6000 cardstecton3d wrote:the 2gb gtx 460's definitely look appealing but where are the 2gb gtx 470's? Has anyone heard of 2 or 2.5gb 470's in the pipeline?

confirming the 2.7 ms/sec with asus gtx 470.
no overclocking done, the asus tool is not working on my computer yet

Here's mine,
All renders taken at 60 seconds intervals.
Nvidia drivers- 257.21 WHQL
Octane 2.2bx64
CubixPro 2x480's
Pathtracing result:on-screen: 5.79 Megasamples/sec; Total samples 604
real megasamples/sec =10.06
Directlighting result: on-screen: 15.24 Megasamples/sec; Total samples 1597
real megasamples/sec =26.62
2x480 + QuadroFX4600 (actually slower!)
Pathtracing result: on-screen:4.59 Megasamples/sec; Total samples 483
real megasamples/sec =8.05
Real megasamples is computed by taking the total samples rendered, divided by total rendered seconds.
If anything lets run the benchmarks 60 seconds for an apples to apples comparison.

Now thats fast for directlighting for a single card! I would be curious to see 2x480 water cooled benchmarks.goranmax wrote:...GTX 480 with water cooling
Its hard to really find an apples to apples breakdown because you may need to upgrade your MB, PSU, Case, add liquid cooling, or buy a Cubix. All of these variables scale the price per megasample.

After driver update i have 2,8 megasemples/sec on GTX 470 (old result 2,69)
After overclock to 730mhz 3,17 megasemples/sec
in directlight on GTX480 more then 10 megasampls

its in direct light mode... switch to pathracefrafra wrote:just bought a second hand quadro FX5800:

The strange thing is that this card is made from the same ship than the gtx480, so performance should be equal, but that's not the same. Strange!

hi folks long time off line (i been working non stop ..
nice to see the forum as alive as allways . i am virtually on the point of buying 2 460 2gb (but i am getting just one to fix in my home machine to try it out first . unfortunately they seem a bit lack luster in performance 3mpix for 2 when you can buy a 480 for the same price ...
when will we get that fix for octane ..? is anybody out there coming up against the 1.5-2gb memory limits on these cards ???
*info anybody ?
