Hi
I am trying to do various procedural based materials for the ldb but I really need to go further with the scale factor-
Look for exaple this image:
Image
I want to do sparkled red car paint, but turbulence scale only goes to 1000 and really need to go near 100000 or so.
The same with a "procedural brushed steel I've uploaded to the ldb already.

So I guess that was a wish!

BTW some more subdivs in the material test ball would be nice, look how it gets so polygonal in the sphere xy quadrants.
TIA

Hi,

I can up the maximums, but i hope you realise that the material ball is a tiny object already.
it's only a handfull of centimeters wide.
A car (for carpaint) is like 100x bigger than that ball.

Hi Radiance
Thanx for the answer
I guess it would not be harmfull to add a couple of zeros to the counter. it is something that may be usefull IMHO.
But if this is a pain in the a** for the core of octane or something, let it be as it is.
THX again

How about create an expression node with the ability to control individual parameters? IE [turbulance.float.scale*(real_number)]

or just unlock all the spinners ;)There (imo) should never be a clamped value in any 3d application. For years autodesk clamped stuff (still do in a few spots) and it sucked. At some point you have to realize that not everyone will work to scale or whatever, and that should be taken into account. With some good "default" numbers you get a grasp of the scales involved.. Some people cant work to scale or maybe *wont* work to scale because the scene was just handed to them as is, all out of scale, and it just has to "look" correct.. (lots of film work is like this btw ;)

The lights for example (the blackbodies) I like the nice warm look of the lower value colors, but I cant get it to the brightness I want.. Sure I can re-tonemap the scene, but that means I might have to go in and adjust 50 *other* lights AND the sun to get the same result.. I'd personally like to just dial the power up a lil more :) I love "physically correct", but if your art director comes over and asks for that extra bit of non-physical, art-directed look, it's nice to comply :)

cheers!

Very true, after all this is being used to create visuals that will either cost you more if you created them in real world, or they cannot be created in real world NOW or in the way you IMAGINE.

+1

I still wouldn't mind an expression node or null for other functionality but I guess thats another discussion.
