It might be more like Octane 1.0 final when/if it happens - months away.
The Zotac/2gb card appears to be 3 slots wide so be careful to make sure you can actually fit 2 cards in your pc.
You might need to look at same card by other manufacturers

you're right, the Zotac will eat up three slots. i can only use one of this paired with another two-slot card in my current rig...
Hmm, i thought with release 2.3 the 460 will already be closer to its full potential. i'm not doing any critical production atm so i can get away with 10-20% speed hit off the 470's.
really need some 460 benchmark number here -- i hope the release is coming soon

Hi guys,
We added the requirements for use of the new GTX460 48 shader units per SM, but it does'nt seem to work.
I think we need to compile against cuda 3.1 (the GTX460 was not around when cuda 3.0 was released).
We've been working hard to get 3.1 working as nvidia changed stuff that broke octane with 3.1.
We hope the next version support cuda 3.1 if we can resolve the issue with nvidia's help.
EDIT: apparently this is only supported with the upcoming cuda 3.2, so i think owners of a GTX460 will have to wait a few weeks before they have full rendering power/GPU use.

i've compiled everyone's results into a spreadsheet. here are graphs! we love graphs!
Raw performance numbers: And Newegg cost per megasamples/sec. This is the number of US$ you pay per megasample
Enjoy!

Hmmm, I saw the speadsheet, nice idea by the way!!!
Something is wrong with the quadro 5000 + tesla c2050, their result should be twice the 480 one!
Driver problem??? Need to check...
Thanks,

That is great news. I am getting two Palit GTX 460 2GB tomorrow. I will run the test scene for Octane and post the results.radiance wrote:...apparently this is only supported with the upcoming cuda 3.2, so i think owners of a GTX460 will have to wait a few weeks before they have full rendering power/GPU use.

A little offtopic

hello everyone..well this is my first post on the forum..and I tried doing some test with the benchmark scene provided..first of all ..I downloaded the demo and the scene file did not open giving me an error "invalid scene file" .. anyways I imported it to 3ds max and then exported it back and I did some setting since I am not well versed with octane yet below are some test result..
Reading the speed of ms/s for other octane members .. the results I get is faster on a gtx 470 .. maybe someone here can guide me through..
this one with the diffuse material + direct lighting assigned..

this one with the glossy material + direct lighting...

This one with glossy material and pathtracing..
